Habay,is the food that bad?

Recent reports of food not being to the liking of some drivers, but i cant see why, unless they have gone downhill, since i was there last. They do a giant pile of meat on a two foot long metal skewer, like a mixed grill on a stick,it is not expensive.
They serve fresh veg, mash spuds, and daily choices of meat and fish dishes, good starters and puddings with the drivers menu,a loyalty card is on offer, there was hearty stews and casseroles,so not sure why some folks objected to what is on offer. There is two Algerian girls serving the food sometimes.
All over the Belgium motorway network, there is the Pizza Hut chain,if you apply for an Autogrill drivers card,it takes a minute to fill it out, then you get pizza and pasta meals or take away slices for half price off the full price. The drivers menu, will be half price,or with a large discount for truckers, just like the UK MSA s
that should offer discounts for truckers, tight fisted muppets, the owners are.

you made me hungry right now!

Are you on commission Tobe?

Personal choice I suppose. I would sooner push on a bit or put up with a big bag of finest Belgian frites met mayo.

It might not be the food, could be the clientele

On a comparison with a UK MSA,I would prefer the Habay food, the muck served to UK drivers is an insult to civilisation,we are not monkeys,my german shepherd eats better. How can anyone do a 15 hour shift, for what is on offer in the UK,is a wonder.
If the firms have us cab hopping,it is hard to keep your own stuff with you,the eastern euro guys and gals have it down to a fine art, shop at cheap supermarkets,it is amazing what they cook up at the roadside, most of the time they have offered me some of their cuisine delights,if you cast a glance to what is in the pan.It seems to be cooked with a lot of onions, garlic, and spices.Horse meat and veal is very common in europe.

It always gives me a poorly tum when i`ve been there, not good in this job

I’ve been in to Habay once in the last 7 years, and that was just to pop in for a coffee with euromat.
I can’t say I like the place much at all,but I did use it often when it first opened in the early 90’s.

I’d much rather stop at the Relais St.Christophe at Neufchateau (exit 27,E411) the food is much better and so are the showers!

Seconded, only downside is its not open weekends and doesnt have a liqueur license if you fancy a quiet beer…

On reflection, no liqueur license is a good thing, it keeps the British ■■■■ heads away!!! LOL!

BP Cabbage Patch,Saint Andre de Cubzac, lot of lagered up brit lads, drunk from friday night to monday morning, bless their white cotton socks.Foxy waitresses that got knocked up by them, and moved in with the lasses.

Thirded, if there is such a thing.
I carry my own whisky :smiling_imp: .

Not quite sure what you mean ‘no liqueur licence’,beer is no problem,as is wine and most spirits too.

That lack of a liqueur licence is a bit of a nuisance :frowning:

Perhaps they didn’t like the look of you Ben   but I can’t remember off-hand anytime not being able to get an alcoholic drink.

Incidentally,I remember reading a review by ■■■■ Flute in T&D a while ago about Neufchateau, and he said that the place had opened only a few years ago,but I remember being introduced to the place by some fellow Van Maanen driver’s in the early 90’s! Maybe it was new ownership a few years ago?
He also said that they charge for overnight parking too.Utter tosh! I have been parking there for years and never been charged.
Not even last Tuesday night when I was there.

Habay gives you a receipt for ten euros for parking,to give to your boss, who pays you back, you do not pay Habay for parking.

In habay last week and the grub was fine.

That was what i thought too,it is Belgium, and they are very fussy eaters.

Arestaurant that locals go to eat at can’t be that bad,

I stop there when in the area, can’t fault the food, new showers are in the proccess of being built and free parking with a euro 10 reciept for parking when you buy a meal.

Even if OPs do say it’s crap, it is still better than any the UK has to offer

The local priest eats there,he is still alive.Yes,beats what the uk has to offer at motorway services, and surly staff, that wish they were not at work.

Most of the truckstops in Europe are frequented by locals, remember Meer on a Sunday afternoon, most drivers couldn’t get a table. There are some nice restaurants in Belgium, some are bloody expensive, but my reasons for avoiding Habay is not the food on offer, although it isn’t my favourite. It has got the British disease like the previously mentioned cabbage patch. Drink fuelled ■■■■■■■■ spouted from about 3.30 on a Friday afternoon until Sunday :stuck_out_tongue:
