Danny,Danny who I really think I am losing the plot

The only other thing he said about him was he always had clean boots!!!
(Sat here laughing my head off typeing that)

Well that would be Danny Moss who worked at one time for Jamesons and more recently for Pitters and now Im led to beleieve for Pentalvers Southampton and Im sure his boots are still shining. Why for you laugh is it because we come from south of the M4?

Was it the clean boots that gave it away.

No nothing to do with you being South of the M4, Just my Dad remembering only his first name and that he always had clean boots

Good evening Gents.

Cheers Marc.

The donor photograph for this cutting included Harry (you can just see his volvo jacketed elbow to the right of the cutting) standing by his new Volvo 244 (SAW 969R) along with further examples of the ‘all F86’ fleet at that point in time… This was used by ‘Headlight’ magazine as their feature cover shot.

Another great shot, once again should have collected these the first time around.

Tim. Have you got any more photos??

Cheers

Hi DP

Hope your well and all set for Xmas, found a few more for you.

Thanks for adding these snaps, Tim.

Christmas. Yes we are all wrapped and ready for Santa… all we’ve got to do now is get ourselves over to the White Horse (Heath Hill) so that the drivers can have a beer and verbally abuse ‘the management’ until they can drink no more…or wait until Cybil picks Roy up…

Happy times.

All the very best to you and yours this Christmas Tim, please send my regards to your Dad and remind him of the HSH mission statement “The sun never set’s on a Hayward Truck”.

Cheers

This is going back a few years, Harry Hayward is stood by the trailer and Colin Cheshire is on the trailer. The driver was Derek Williams (once it got over the channel) LOL

Hi Tim.

How are you?

Great cuttings and thank you for posting them, from 1981. A chap called Vic Drage (pictured far right), who Colin knew from his Cadwallder days (worked part-time for HSH too) made the connection with HSH to do this.

As I recall, the purpose of the mission may have been stolen by the drama off it all… I think your Dad might have a story or two about this trip.

However fair play, we (HSH) engaged in the urgency, and allowed Harry to talk about it (once or twice) during the next few years… For Harry this Italian mission dovetailed very nicely into tails of his WW2 minesweeping “trips” along the Italian coastline between Civitavecchia and Santa Margherita Ligure. Yes Tim, these stories are firmly embedded into my mind. HSH drivers would often offer Harry the opportunity to engage discussion on these conquests when doing their weekly “night out” expenses (Friday), often causing Harry to miscount, subsequently leaving the petty cash float confusingly ‘light’ (Funnily enough, he’d go balistic if it didn’t balance, when returning from any absence (probably a cruise on the Canberra to the Med’, more specifically the Italian ports… here we go again) . The conversation might start… “I was talking to a fella who thought he might know you from the Navy…” Oh dear!

God bless you Harry! You gave me the best career start.

When you get a chance send me a PM with a number for your Dad. It’s time we caught up.

Cheers and all the very best.
