Reading a few threads on here about H+S got me thinking about the time I did a drop to the Olympic Village dropping of Bespoke landings and stairs for the accommodation blocks for the athletes one Friday. I thought a nice steady day 12:00pm tip, couple of hours to fit the load with the crane then straight back home as we very rarely look for backloads when we have flats on. After going to the holding area on the M11 I get on my way Stratford and the massive site and find the lads who are going to tip me. The crane was already there so I took my straps off and the Foreman came up and asked if I could piggy back one of our trailers back to our yard which had been left down there. “No probs mate” even better now as they couldn’t look for me a back load the Foreman said they couldn’t load the trailer back on me until they had a safety certificate faxed through from head office even though they had done loads in the past and knew what they were doing.I had no problem with this as I would be at least 2 hours tipping anyway so let them crack on with it. I was tipped at 14:30 and what time did the certificate get faxed through to load the trailer■■? 18:30!
I couldn’t leave the site without the certificate as the security guards wouldn’t let me out without one! I left the site at 19:30 and I just got parked up in my hours, my nice, steady day gone down the drain all in the name of ■■■■■■■ H+S!!!
Has any others had anything like this happen and balls their nice easy shift/day or plans up?
I had to deliver to Stratford city a few times, never easy. Thankfully that’s the van lads regular run now.
New street station is a real PITA to deliver to, full oranges have to worn along with safety glasses because I’m delivering to the building site while the guy parked next to me delivering the papers is in shorts and a t-shirt no idea why he’s in any less danger than me.
I delivered down there weekly for about 6 months and I too had quite a few dramas with bloody H&S.
I had to collect a crawler crane jib from Stanford-le-hope. My ■■■■■■ was one of the main managers as it was a sat morn. Billy no mates on the gate wouldn’t let me out without a release slip. The manager had to take me back on site, go to his office and sign a slip, come back to me and take me to the gate. I got home late cos of this rubbish.
delivering blocks to a site in Cardiff years ago. the holding area for the blocks was about 600 yds away from where they was working I was sat on top the HI AB and some jumped up loon asked me where my hard hat was!!! i politly informed him that anything that would fall on my head at this distance no hat would help me and he best move before some blocks slip from the grab

Wait till you have to go to the one on Farringdon Road,
Your vehicle must have stickers on the rear advising cyclists not to undertake, stickers on the side advising people to keep away, must have fire extinguisher, spare bulbs, stickers in the cab warning you to Belt Up, drug warning stickers, number of passengers allowed stickers, there’s more just can’t be bothered to list them all. They have gone completely over the top.

A certain national builders merchant insists that driver wear a hard hat while 12 foot up in the air on a top seat crane, but will let customers walk underneath you as your swinging a 1 tonne pack of blocks about.
H&S when it suits.
Ken.
I recall in the early '90’s having a number of “set too’s” with H&S at a couple of Paper Mills we ran out of in the North West regarding driver safety on top of loads of reels ( we’d never had an accident ever) and these two mills were origionally designed for horses and carts. So I stood my ground and argued it was immposible to comply with H&S under the circumstances which the areosol had to reluctantly agree to.However,I asks this ■■■■■■■■■ about when our motors are loading waste paper in a back street in Brum and we have to pull out and sheet and rope on the street, what happens about H&S then? This ■■■■ just says, nothing to do with me,not my patch so I’m not interested ! What a bunch of ■■■■■ these H&S geezers are, jobs for the boys if ever there was one ! Cheers Bewick.

Society is now made up of a 50/50 split of those working and those who look to stop you doing anything. I got home last night to a card shoved through the door from the environment agency enquiring why I had an 18 ton slew parked by my river (well half of) on my land, I informed him that it was there to push fence posts in and issued a few ■■■■■ to him down the phone, he issued me with a booklet in the post today
