Has anyone got the skinny on Ricketts? Been asked to go have a chat with the gaffer, but don’t want to waste his time, or mine, if it’s not right for me.
Yep.
It is usually a lack of calcium and vitamin D.

No wrong ,they carry loads of calcium carbonate !
They have been in business for Donkey’s Years, they used to collect from our quarry in Derbyshire regularly and always had decent tackle plus their drivers seemed content with their lot. There will be many worse folk to work for I reckon!
Pete.
Based in Brum they run a fleet of very tidy Volvo tippers and at least two curtainsiders on their bagged aggregates. I can’t comment on what they are like to work for, but when I have seen jobs advertised with them, they are always paying a decent rate and they are one of the oldest hauliers in the area, so guess they must be doing something right.
As others have said really, my old man worked for them back in the late 80’s/early 90’s, been around donkeys and he says they was good to work for back then.

Are you being asked by a friend or by the “gaffer” either way your friend must have made an enquiry on your behalf,or the "gaffer"has asked for a chat therefore
he does not think its a waste of time.
Wasting your time suggests your not really interested any ways,so have the courtesy of declining the chat

Not really sure why you come to that conclusion? I spoke to him directly, he’s a busy bloke, and didn’t really give too much away on the phone, but did ask me to go see him. I work days, so would have to take time off to go see him. Do you advocate going in blind, and losing money?
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Ok, so you may loose a couple hours pay but you may well recoup that fairly quickly depending on your rate of pay now and what he offers if you accept the job.
They are not too far from me, and the drivers I have spoken with seem happy with their lot, both the wages and the trucks they drive. I know that the gaffer is keen that his drivers are happy, and invites them to Truckfest and Shows, with them allowed to “bling up” their trucks.
Their Volvo FH 750 was voted Truck of the Year for a customised truck too, so they are keen to create a professional and dedicated image that appears to pay dividends!!
Go and see them, they are one of the better ones around here
I think they run some old quarries that were ex RMC etc, they get out Oxford way into Smiths for shingle every now and again so they get about for a tipper firm.
Henry Ricketts is a nice man so is Simon his son inlaw who’s married to Ruth in the office ,a long time ago now they did scrap up to sheffield for us in order to collect the limestone they supply .
I heard Steven Little left Lawsons of Cockermouth to go there.
I believe the general consensus is that they are good to work for!
