also the ferry company can inform the french interior ministry that your overwieght before you leave dover(assuming you ship on the ferry) so your stuffed before you leave the uk!!
bon chance mon ami !!
How do the ferry company know where you are going?
It’s a fairly safe assumption that you are going to France
Seriously they could in theory use ANPR for this. I don’t think this actually happens though.
You may be catching a ferry to France but you are allowed to drive into Belgium Luxembourg and Holland with 44 tonne. Who weighs you at the tunnel, no body does.

Hello.
Does anybody know what the GVW in France is? I run at 44t in the UK using a 6x2 midlift and triaxel air trailer (barrel tanker). I’ve read that 40t is the maximum, but on the (UK) business link website, it says that UK registered vehicles can run at 44t.
Thaks in advance before I get pulled…!!
Off to load the glucose ■■?
IIRC Malc, the 44ton/100km thing is from port of entry/exit something to do with it being inter modal
That companyski from Sohamski have been doing it for ages with there 5 1/2 legger DAFs

40 tonne on 5 axles and above,
38 tonne on 4 axles.
13 tonne allowed on drive axle.
44tonne is only allowed for combined intermodal or using the A16 corridor.

I think there is a get out within 100km of a port, not sure whether that means every zone portuaire
Thanks Wheel Nut. My French is not so hot, so can’t read the PDF you linked to. Do you know of an English version.?
I heard about the 100Km get out, but was told this had been extended on 18.01.11…?

It seems things are moving towards the longer Muldoon type trailer and higher weights.
45 tonnes on six in France
France is to allow 45 tonnes on six axles from 2014 for all road haulage and 45.5 tonnes if the truck has a retarder device. The new 45-tonne limit is specifically derived from 44 tonnes gross plus one tonne for the sixth axle. The DfT has ruled out any increase on 44 tonnes.
The decision will add to pressure on the UK government to revisit gross weights, particularly in respect of 15.65metre semi-trailers, should it decide to go ahead with those. An announcement on the next stage of that debate is expected very shortly.
There is little sign of any consensus over weights on six axles across the EU.

The bit I am struggling with is finding the chapter & verse for the 100 km limit from the ports.
Have noticed 6 axle French artics coming off ferries into UK, GCA, Norbert and others. Are they loading within a radius of the export port or just trying to keep witin the UK drive axle limits? It’s rare for a Frog to have a 3 axle tractor. Here, 6 axles combi’s can be used on international “containers” only, up to 44 ton.
I know of 2 people been done at Boulogne peage for grossing 44t, They both loaded well within 100 kms from Calais.
40tonnes max in france.i got a 4 wheel unit and 3axle trailer,my mate runs on 6 axles (same firm) which happens to be a french one,and we both only run to 40 tonnes even though his 6 wheeler is plated for 44tonnes,anymore than 40tonnes you will be nicked.also the ferry company can inform the french interior ministry that your overwieght before you leave dover(assuming you ship on the ferry) so your stuffed before you leave the uk!!

sorry 4 the delay in replying fellas been dodging the weighscales!!
as the ferrys from dover only go to france its an easy shot for the ferry companys to inform the french interior ministry,as to where your load is going is irrelevant as you gotta get off the boat in france 1st,hey presto your shafted! or if you wanna chance your luck you could go to newhaven and land in france,! this job would be alright if you didnt have vosa, french interior, ukba, douanes, zoll,on your back !!
by the way the ferry company thatll grass on you if you happen to be overweight(over 40tonnes) for france is seafrance not p/o not dfds but seafrance so if your a bit heavy dont take achance dont take seafrance! andp/o only ask your weight of the load and what it is most of the time in dover anyway,
the wa i look at it is they ruin our roads , lets do there roads in too! and theres me working for a frenchman!!!
