It’s a good-looking lorry and load but don’t let Bewick see those ropes over the flysheet! :unamused:

Yes but IS it a flysheet? My money’s on it being a full length side sheet with another shorter one at the back (n/s) and some old floor cloth up the front.

You could well be right. I’ve spent many a happy hour trying to cover a huge load with a variety of small sheets! In which case I think he’s done a decent job.

An atmospheric shot of the times ROF  ,you saw many motors with hotch potch sheeting jobs like that Invincible, but there dosen’t look like there would be much sheet flapping on that load, and it is well roped. The driver has obviously done his best with the tackle he had to work with.Cheers Bewick.

It goes without saying that BTS would have provided the driver with a set of sheets made to measure for the load. :unamused:

Our drivers or shunters didn’t require “made to measure” sheets to make a good job of covering a load ROF :unamused:  Cheers Bewick.

Don,t know why you are all still interested in guy,s with 240’s,common as muck at Maddiston in the seventies.
What you should be looking for is a photo of the six wheel Guy unit with the Detroit diesel, which came to Maddiston as a demo in 1970,was more powerful than anything else at Maddiston at the time including the Scania vabis and Scania 110’s and was wrapped round a tree on the Bathgate road by Jimmy Connors, known after that as “johnny in the fast lane”.

Didn’t "Tom Thumb"drive that Detroit Guy on nights Loader8?

The Guy belongs to Earthstrip Ltd, the picture is cropped off an advertisment that appeared in Headlight Magazine in the late 60s.

They only look like this once in their lifetime.
sorry for quality of photo

Great shot of the Invincible “moomooland” that’s the heavier one of the Guy 8 wheelers, double drive and probably the Gardner 6LX or 150 I would think I wonder if the dropsides were for the brick traffic from Bedfordshire ? Cheers Dennis.

Or possibly for sand? You can save half a ton of payload if you delete the tipping gear & give the driver a decent shovel!

Some that W.Carter had ,taken at Woodbridge Suffolk

This was the first Warrior I saw. Looked very flash compared to the Comets and Chieftains! Is it true they had trouble with the screens falling out?

Trust you to involve the poor driver in “a bit of collar”,but you may be right as there were a few sand pits around that part of the country.Cheers Dennis.
