GUY Big J 8LXB Tractor Unit

Bewick:
Hiya Dave, Don’t think you are getting off the hook that easily ! :open_mouth: I have got “CF” poised to come across the Channel in his Bedford KM (330 engined  ) unit c/w 44ft Highway single axle coil carrier. Only problem is that once you have loaded the pallets of Brie and Rouge red you will have to sheet and rope it for him otherwise it will be all over the [zb] road at the first roundabout, then I will get it delivered on an 8 wheel tipper ! what a [zb] stinking mess !! ROF has offered to lend him the 3 in-complete log books he used as a “Cowboy” so “CF” can make the delivery in “one 24 hr hit” but apparently “CF” is carrying on down to Santander as the ferry back to Pompey is E10 cheaper plus there is a male stripper on the Cabaret on the overnight crossing, :open_mouth: with regards to the delivery of the Ferro Rocha I understand you are sending them in a Peugeot Partner fridge van to arrive on the afternoon of the 24th December, “carriage forward” ( tight wad! ) Yer get nowt fer nowt these days      Cheers Dennis.

Well Den, the last time you got CF to transport Brie / Vin he got lost, and by the time you received it it’d gone off…now you’re getting him involved again, and, he’s demanding extra payment in wine…,AND… he’s going to to it in a MERCEDES for heaven’s sake …I reckon you’ve lost the plot me old mucker…
I’ll find a french hauler who’ll do the job properly in a proper motor, a nice 8 wheel Bernard TV cabbed beastie… refrigerated of course…

It could be Robert that front mounted silencer looks bigger than the ones used on Gardner 180s

IIRC Its a Peebles Reg, & defo a 240 Badge, Regards Larry.

Well the M A Evans could be the real McCoy, it’s puking enough oil over the exhaust to qualify!

Let me be the first to point out that a badge on the front does mean that’s what’s under the bonnet, now where’s me tin hat

You left it hanging on the radiator grille to hide the 240 badge  . Robert

Well how about comparing the exhaust on the Bewick Big J to the one on the Evans motor ? looks about the same length to me ? Cheers Bewick.

The owners of Moss and Lovatt from Rushden Spencer gave a talk and slide show at our club last year and there was a clear shot of a Big J with a Gardner 240 badge on the grille! However they admitted that the driver had put the badge on and it only had a 6LXB in it.

Pete.

Looks about the same to Me, given the camera angle

Ah, but we only have Mr Bewick’s word that he didn’t change the 240 badges for 180 badges, so that the opposition would be impressed with the power of his 6LXBs…
Anon.

never thought of that

Apart from the fact that I posted a picture of a GL Baker Big J with a 240 under the cab, a picture I got from the driver of said vehicle none the less, it seems that there are still doubters.

The one pictured above does appear to have differences to suggest it could have the 8 pot lump hidden beneath the cab, it sits quite high on the chassis, the right side location of the snorkel is right for a Gardner and that one is extended above roof height to ■■■■ in more air for the extra two pots to breathe.

That M.A.Evans Big J was posted by Dave the Renegade a fair while back. Dave was under the opinion it was a 240!

Now there belies a tale John! We once had a Driver, from Kendal and an old school pal, who we gave a start on one of the Big J’s and this particular morning he had to run through to Bowies with an empty 36ft van. He only picked up a loaded one and ran to Barrow ! When he landed back in the yard two and a half hours later he swore blind he never noticed the difference ( Lindale hill etc.) so that says a lot for the powerful 180LXB doesn’t it :unamused:  Needless to say this pillock didn’t last long with us as IIRC there was another balls up with a trip Glasgow so he had to have them “licked and sticked” and pointed towards the gate but funnily enough he never bore me a grudge his undying ire was directed towards our manager ! This particular individual went on to run his own taxi firm in the Town and is, unfortunately, no longer with us. Cheers Dennis.
