The driver said it was very noisy, which may be down to the sleeper conversion.
If it was anything like this he was right.

I think you will find that old Atki had a top quality hush kit fitted…
You could see daylight around the edge of the door. That must have been worth a blanket or two.
If our pal Bewick would like to look at the “Guy Big-Js on Long Distance Work” thread, he will find two recent posts apparently evidencing the existence of at least two of the legendary 240 Gardner-powered lorries. One post comes from dave docwra, who says that has personal experience of two. The other contributor is none other than the undisputed king of transport history, Saviem, who also claims to have known of two examples. These could have been the same two vehicles, probably the two supplied to Longton Commercials.
Sadly, still no “back of cab” photos, but the evidence of these two contributors would be hard to deny, in my humble opinion.
Besides, what about all those deteriorating engines that Bewick has hidden away in his barn in th’ills after those nice Smith chaps from Maddiston latched on to his scam?

Keep up old chap, I revealed the GL Baker examples a couple of weeks back.

Yes, but he doesn’t believe you! I was hoping that the number and quality of witnesses might possibly change his point of view.
Or get him to admit to the millions he made with his ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ scam!
but on this Atki the exhaust comes off the blower on the off side ? So what engine is it and what engine is in the above Guy ?
E290 ■■■■■■■ in the Atki and a 505 in the Guy.

It looks like TMT 465M in the colour pic but the M looks like a Wobblew in the Black n White one! 5th Wheel do you recall your 240 GUY at SoM having the cab raised more than the normal height? Franky.
Sorry for the delay Franky,no the 240 Percy Big J I drove was a standard height if I recall correctly,it certainly wasn’t highly raised as suggested.

Thanks
Or it could be an NT240 in the Atki, not sure where the turbo was on those, but it was at the back on an E290 and usually had a big heat shield around it on a day cab.

Iam sure the 240 turbo was on the side ,so could be a 250 .
The 250 was naturally aspirated

Must be a 290 then as the 240 turbo came in the b series erf and later ■■■■■■■ decided it be called a 250 turbo by the time of the c series erf .

Don’t remember them fitting a 290E in a Borderer, ?
Maybe a Rolls then? I’ve no idea where the turbo was on those.

I had a 401 with the NT250 fitted and its Turbo was fitted on the offside just rear of the gear lever mounting

NT240/250 It’s the same engine with a different badge, the 250 I referred to was the naturally aspirated one that was offered alongside the new fangled turbocharged engines to appease the Luddites.
This could turn into the next Big J 8LXB thread at this rate [emoji1] [emoji1] [emoji1]
