A binge of 240 Gardner photos?
A bamboozle of Alf’s
He will run of computer ink.
A confusion of Carries.
I’ve just been reading another thread and seen one of his comments about the ZF16 speed synchro he had in a Daf and what a great box it was.I have lost count on how many times he’s slated synchro boxes for being too slow.I always liked the 16 speed ZF in the DAF and i mentioned it on here (Not the MAN version )I never understood where he was coming from on that because they are slower but not slow enough to make a difference.I think he trawls this and other sites and takes peoples comments and makes them his own.Another theory is he likes attention and to get people to bite , just scroll back and see how many times he’s made reference to Bewick recently hoping he will take the bait.
Curries of Dumfries.
I wont mention cabbages
Which is why I’m so hard on him. I don’t claim expertise in anything, I’m but a humble (but fully time served) tradesman who is reasonably knowledgeable, but I can smell bovine excrement from 16,500km.
It’s slow going, but I have forced him to concede that he’s not an engineer, or even a tradie.
He is still trying to hang on to the “test driver” title, but has admitted that it also included delivering and picking up, in a van.
He does excel at phrasing things in such a way that leads one to the wrong conclusion, that he has accomplished things that he hasn’t, or has qualifications that he has not.
Look at the Jaguar, that he wanted us to believe was the best car in London. When pushed hard, he posted a grainy picture of a thirty year old magazine article. Pushed harder we got a phot of a current newspaper on the bonnet of a Jaguar, that he admitted wasn’t registered or roadworthy. He then expects us to believe that the car is pristine, apart from a rusted brakeline that he lacks the skill to repair. I bet at least half the fellows reading this could repair the brakeline.
A couple of years ago, maybe more, he told us he was going to buy a high performance V8 from America. I spent quite some time writing a fairly comprehensive article on what is available here, with the bonus that it would be RHD. What did he buy? Nothing! Another big noting bs fantasy.
He is fun to spar with though, knowing with facts on my side and choosing my battles, I’ll always win.
Nor the Eaton twin splitter gear box.
Poor fellow is just insecure, who wouldn’t be with as many failures he’s had to endure?
Imagine sat in a pub with him all day?
Les its just to remind posters its about GUY Big J 8LXB as this thread seems to have gone, well into the rough so to speak, when I first drove out of Cornwall in 73 for Dick Benney I had a BIG J but with a 180 Gardener but that was quite common back in the day, Buzzer
I would imagine that would have been an experience Buzzer with all that power available up the numerous hills down there
It certainly was a lack of power R but you got used to it with 20 ton loads, the chap had 3 ERF A series as well plus the first new Scania 110 sleeper think was a J reg plus a one year old F88 with 16 speed box bought second hand, had a go in that one day and could not believe how it went, the other slow motor I remember was an F86 that was mine and i always said it was a wild life motor as if you had a long hill to climb you could watch a rabbit mate at the bottom and by the time you reached the top the young ones had arrived
Buzzer
Now Mr. Knowledge let me just give you a bit more info on those two "A"Series units .
First off I personally bought them in 1975 , the one on the left came from Eden Commercial Services Ltd at Carlisle and I specc’d it with a front towing cross member. The one on the right I bought ex stock from HLH Garages in Norwich and it wasn’t actually the one I thought I had bought and paid for that was to have been a 180LXB and DB 6:600 and Eaton two speed axle. When that one was delivered one Friday morning by a Delivery driver it did have the 180LXB but the Fuller 609 box and D85 HR axle. When I rang HLH to ask what had happened they informed me the MR Sutton had bought the 6 speed two speed unit ! And I could have my money back if I didn’t want the unit they had sent me ! But as I was OK with the Fuller box as I had other “A” Series on the fleet with identical spec but with the Cummins 220 engines so I kept this unit and it turned out to be a very reliable little workhorse never put a foot wrong and it ended it’s days as the yard shunter as I couldn’t bear to scrap it plus it’s fleet name was Judy after my whippet ■■■■■ which at 14 years old in November '75 I had to have her put to sleep !
Useless info about a dog but she done more trips to London when I was running my D1000 and used to lap it up riding shot gun !
So CF pick the bones out of that explanation about the two 9ft 6"wb “A” Series
