hiya,
They originally intended to put a 240 Percy in her but S o M had bought them all for their Big Js, just wonder what happened to them all? will we ever see photographic evidence of the elusive back end, front end badge engineered shots don’t count, our good friend Mr Bewick had an Atki with four knight’s heads on the grill “possibly one of mine” included but it wasn’t any different to any same spec Atki’s, engines not badges maketh the motor, is it tin hat time again, “CHRIS”
thanks harry long retired.

By eck its long while ago when I were a lad seeing Mr Bewick going from the The Cross Keys hotel,to The Bulls head and the Coach and horses trying to find someone who would sell him a Guy Big J with an 8LXB engine.Ta owd lad were fair
mackerel-ed when eeh ■■■ owt o there.

Well now then Dave, you could count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I frequented both the Bull or the Key’s in 30 years or so, the Coach and Horses and the Station now thats another story!!! These two pubs were more-or less Bewick establishments although the Station ceased been one of them, abruptly, after Christmas '85,must have cost her a fortune in lost trade as the Bewick drivers /fitters and me were the main customers.Greedy ■■■■■! serves her right for what happened!! Cheers Dennis.

Was just browsing on wikipedia this afternoon, and one of the things mentioned about Milnthorpe was those three pubs.It also mentioned Libby’s,who I believe you were there main haulier for.
Cheers Dave.

I see Dave ,doing your homework eh! I started loading out of Libby’s in '68 with my first “A” licence, always to the London area and usually 2 X 10 ton loads a week.By the late 80’s we were loading as much as 75% of the Libby output which was sometimes 15/16/17 ,24 ton loads per day.The factory was just over the fence adjacent to, by then, our depot! Cheers Dennis

I find it quite interesting looking at information about different places Dennis. One of the few things I was interested in at school was geography, the main one was catching the bus home. Its sad that most of the small towns and a lot of the bigger one’s have lost so many good firms over the last thirty years.I really can’t see anything improving in our lifetime.
Cheers Dave.

I was never a fan of school either Dave ,infact i hated it but my favourite musical instrument was the dinner bell

Hey up old un are they thee whitsuntide clothes  :unamused: ANON.

As this thread is slipping down the page - here’s snap taken on Saturday - still missing a couple of cylinders I’m afraid!

Well known Guy Big J B101SFK - nice and easy to drive - steady and happy at 50mph but will ease itself up to 55 if required.

Fitted with a Gardner 180 and Fuller 9 speed. No power steering required - just a steering wheel the size of a dustbin lid - no probs!

Built in 1978 and bought by Fordhouses Transport who never actually used it but put it into storage. Cost in 1978 was £11,000, I think.

Fordhouses subsequently ceased trading and the Guy was bought by Thomas Ingles Transport of Wolverhampton. They registered the truck in 1985 (hence the “B” plate), fitted the sleeper conversion, and used it until 1989 when they too ceased trading.

There was also a “Truck and Driver” feature on the lorry in September 1986. The driver of the lorry had previously been driving a Scania 111 - one wonders how much he must’ve annoyed the boss to have been put in this lorry!!

The next owner was Jim Horn who restored and used the lorry in his business until 1992 when it was bought by Richard Stanier.
