Aye it were a grand life up in Milnthorpe when I were a lad, listening to those Guy Big J’s with the 240 rumbling up the street.
Made me right proud to be pushing me delivery bike with the basketful of Hovis up past that yard of Bewick Transport, seeing old Mr Bewick puffing on his cigar, gazing out of the window.Aye they were good ol days,be eck.
Something wrong here Dave,it must have been me that was on the shop bike and it was probably Jack Brady smoking the “Havana”!! I’ve never smoked in my life, even when I was on the shop bike!!! Cheers Dennis.
Knowing you Dennis, you would have had a fleet of bike’s
.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
Yes Dave fleet of shop bikes all nicely painted and signwritten, and whats more Dave tha’ts not a bad attempt at a northern accent, keep talking that way and you might be allowed into Milnthorpe without having to flash your passport.
thanks harry long retired.
Been up that way several times Harry, done it and back in a day around Windermere and Ullswater and out at Penrith and back down, did have a week at Heysham about three years ago.Didn’t go into Milnthorpe,as it was pre TNUK days for me.If I ever get up that way again.I will look for the poshest Bungalow in the area and seek the occupant out
.
Cheers Dave.
We’ve been toying with the idea for a while, but now I’m definitely moving to Madeira asap!!!
You can run,but you can’t hide Dennis
.
A bit close to Tenerife Dennis, watch your head

hiya,
Wish i’d known Webby in my driving days i might have been a well to do resident on the IOM, bet that lad could have educated me in the noble art of “dodging” and i would still be able to drag a few squid from under the floorboards, but as they say in this neck of the woods i’ll just have to stay “parish damned” which is as good as being pink lint.

As I said Dennis, spent a week in Heysham, plus several day trips over the years.Lots of dialect is very similar, just the different accent used.
Cheers Dave.

Well now then Dave, you could count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I frequented both the Bull or the Key’s in 30 years or so, the Coach and Horses and the Station now thats another story!!! These two pubs were more-or less Bewick establishments although the Station ceased been one of them, abruptly, after Christmas '85,must have cost her a fortune in lost trade as the Bewick drivers /fitters and me were the main customers.Greedy ■■■■■! serves her right for what happened!! I see Dave ,doing your homework eh! I started loading out of Libby’s in '68 with my first “A” licence, always to the London area and usually 2 X 10 ton loads a week.By the late 80’s we were loading as much as 75% of the Libby output which was sometimes 15/16/17 ,24 ton loads per day.The factory was just over the fence adjacent to, by then, our depot! Cheers Dennis

I find it quite interesting looking at information about different places Dennis. One of the few things I was interested in at school was geography, the main one was catching the bus home. Its sad that most of the small towns and a lot of the bigger one’s have lost so many good firms over the last thirty years.I really can’t see anything improving in our lifetime.
Cheers Dave.

A motor like that definitely did not deliver milk into the factory at Milnthorpe Chris!!! What is the story behind anyway? The sign writing on the cab is authentic though.Cheers Dennis
