Not to worry Dave! Thats a smart motor of Hingley’s,I had 3 in that condition(well for a while!) another 2 secondhand in very tidy nick and one that maybe wasn’t just as tidy but it did a job with a novice driver at the wheel!!! Cheers Dennis.

This one’s got a Gardner engine - sadly only a 150.

It is extremely rare though - (I think) one of only 4 Guy Big J8s left - this is the only single drive example though - It is the ex. Wulfruna Coal vehicle from Wolverhampton

Just to prove that it’s a Gardner…

Was it a pnumatic discharge and not a tipper, the Wulfrina 8 wheeler? Bewick.

Not 100% - but that blower on the side (left) suggests pneumatic??

Unfortunately it has lost its body recently but the lorry is now for sale!

If you are good at welding…

It’s got a magical name to it “Wulfruna Coal” ,doubt if you will see many names like that in the future.

Wulfruna are still in business - over on Horseley Fields in Wolverhampton - on Minerva Wharf - quite a historic site.

Wulfruna (old name of Wolverhampton) coal was on Horseley fields next to the canal, the big j hauled coke (not the sniffing variety  ) to schools and factory boiler rooms, hence the greedy boards and the blowing equipment, they had a 6 wheeler guy and some thames traders at one time.

I recall the stink of fish manure 1 cwt hessionsacks usualy old and torn…i think from the factory down near the overhead bridge in ■■■■■■■■■■ roadnr a cracking little cafe .how the hell they stood the god allmighty smell they must have got immune to it… it was all handball no f/lifts First stop in the morning Margarets cafe at blyth opposite toms DO YOU recall them pint of tea and a chip sandwich 2 bob . if you were that way inclined and did not wash properly you could not get rid of the smell even it got into the cab .when one entered the cafe you could detect the noisy silence as the drivers turned th heads to see who it was with this awfull smell followed by the odd f***ing hell cant you park further away
the worst was the wife ,oh my gob bloody fish meal again i hope you dont thik you are getting in my bed

but that was lorry driving .it was where all you real reliable mates wer the lads you lived and died with i think my self lucky to have survived this long.and i do miss the lads who have departed but on the whole i did enjoy it
i often said to myself on my way out what would the old hands think of the bridges Humber and Ouse bridge nr Gool and hoe mutch time it has saved us …thats all for now i retired nearly ten years. and listening to the afternoon traffic reports i say to my self as mutch as i loved my driving hoe bloody awfull for the lad maybe 10 to 20 miles from home and ut takes up to 3 hrs te do it. with the traffic… fridays are the worst… i live 1 mile to the west of ouse bridge allways in my yard regards Brian X Dunlins in the sixties and mainly Rix Shipping With Stan Jewit … can you pass me a tissue LOLMe thinks i posted on wrong Subject My appologies can some one transfer to HULL and drivers thread PLease
