hiya,
The thread can come to an end at any time you so wish Dave to me everybody’s a winner Dennis has’nt seen his "rain cooled " shot of the elusive two pots sticking out, i have’nt seen any evidence, “which would exist”, of them ever coming along the production line and out of the gates, i consider that makes me a winner, Dave you are quite happy that your friend owned one, an ex Scottish motor according to the reg, SOM?? has he not got a logbook?? showing it had been produced with the 8LXB in-house and not a “transplant” obviously before he bought it, it just seems strange to me that out of the 30/32 motors produced and put into service not one scrap of evidence has been produced to show that these beasts ever existed, why??.
thanks harry long retired.

it’s not that odd though really - I have no idea how many Big Js were produced but I’m willing to bet that 30 or so motors represents a tiny fraction of them.
How people took pictures of fleet motors like Big J’s?

What about other Big j’s - find me a pic of one with the cab tilted (apart from the one I’ve already posted) - pics of this rare event are hard to find but that doesn’t mean the cabs didn’t tilt!

When the Big J was launched with the "revolutionary"■■■■■■■ V6 it was indeed, supposedly, a tilt cab,but this refinement was quickly dropped as a "gimmick"and never figured in the hundreds of Big js that were built subsequently. However there’s maybe a glimmer of another thread starting here----a photo of a Big J with 8LXB engine and a tilted cab!!! Another “bridge too far” maybe----who knows what the next few days may throw up as the “fertile imaginations” on the thread clunk into gear!!! Dennis.

A lot of us know they existed but Dennis wants a photo to prove it, don’t think he’s going to get one , I wonder if one was ever taken that would show the 2 pots out the back. It’s turning into a never ending story.

yes i have to agree there cameras were quite rare in those days expensive to develop ect and not many people would use an exposure on the back of a waggon

my dad has some pictures of waggons he drove in the 50s 60s but all of them are from the front drivers were to busy getting on with the job in hand to be poncing around with a camera but i will keep on searching for the elusive 2 pots hanging out the back

hiya,
Camera’s were fairly modern in the 1970s and films was cheap, other companies except Guy seemingly could afford them and photographed their motors from every angle as a selling point and i still think there must be records of the Dinosaur being produced and if not why not ■■.

Hiya John, how you going? It’s BEWICK! Berwick is the last town in England before you enter the “land of milk and honey”! I have never said that there is, or was, no such motor as a Big J 8LXB!!! I only asked had anyone driven one, worked on one or ,in fact got a Photo of one!!Considering the number which, its claimed, have been built(which I would have reservations about) I find it un-believable that in over 12 months no-one has produced a photo or a factory sales spec sheet that mentions an 8LXB powered Big J.Alas this is misconstrued as me suggesting there was no such motor, which of course I certainly am not! Nothing would please me more than to see an SOM Big J with the Big G sticking out the back of the cab!!! However,it is you and the the other lads that have failed to “produce the goods”,I only posed the question! And have had to endure the castigating!!! No problem there though, because if you give it ,youv’e got to take it!!! Cheers Dennis.

Why did they stop making the 8lxb?
