Well,I were talking to bloke in the pub yesterday and his brother’s sister in law’s uncle’s father used to work for an IOM haulier who ran a MK3 AEC Mammoth Major tanker with a Mirlees diesel engine out of a ship,a V16 it was he reckoned and he’s bringing some photos in tomorrow…or was it thursday? Anyway he sounded genuine enough when I picked him up off the floor for the second time and shoved him in a taxi.

Hi Chris, A firm I worked for took V16 engine blocks into Mirlees Blackstone at Hazel Grove, the blocks were cast at John Thompsons, W-ton but I think the ones they made would have been a bit heavy for a tank, the bare casting was 22ton. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Was it diesel or aviation fuel it run on Chris ?

Knowing the IOM all them years ago it was probably red derv or distilled seaweed.

C’mon Dennis the evidence is now so convincing that no fair minded person would declare this a draw. With more evidence looming, you are in for a loser’s medal on this one old lad  .
Cheers Dave.

IMO this thread has outlived its continued interest, and should be consigned to the Archives!!! I am quite prepared to accept(as I always have done) that Guy Motors did,in fact, build a small number of 8LXB Big Js! The question I posed initially was to ask if anyone had ever seen a Big J with an 8LXB engine and were there any photos of one. This was immediately ceased upon and mis-interpreted as claiming there had never been such a motor!!I must say though that throughout the time the thread has been running opinion has been equally divided between those that are adamant there was(have driven one) and those that are equally adamant that no such motor was ever built!!! However, for all the "huffing and puffing"no one as yet has produced a credible photo or Brochure/Spec sheet to support this “Yeti like” motor!! So IMHO I think we should call it a “no score” draw! And before another storm of “Dung” decends on me I am more than happy to believe that Guy’s would have built such a motor although maybe not in the numbers that have been claimed by some of the contributors to the thread!!! The End,Bewick!

No score draw,my a**e,I think extra time is needed to settle the match :exclamation: .

I don’t think anyone on the thread has seen your A**e either Dave!!!Dennis.

You haven’t seen my back either Dennis,as far as this thread is concerned
Cheers Dave…

…nor mine Dennis!

Rgds,

David

Was this “bulled up”(under worked) SOM S’ampton Guy an Invincible with the C180 or was it a Big J with either 205 or 220 ■■■■■■■■

It was a very hard working ( as were ALL Southampton based vehicles !!! ) Big J with a C 180. I actually use to POLISH it !! …inside and out !!!.. Well I was young and keen then… and in those days we use to take 'em home at week-ends, so when I washed the car it was no effort to wash the truck…

Dennis I hope you are not thinking of stitching Carryfast into a bag with a few bricks
Cheers Dave.

Waste of bricks and a bag if you ask me Dave… :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Just tie an old Detroit Diesel block to his gonads, he’ll go to his doom a happy man !!!
