Dennis,
I never realised you was that old and your haulage experience went back to the time of horses

Yea grew up with them Trev, been kicked ,bit, stood on and oh! got my arm broken as well! good job all the controls on the merc was on the left of the wheel!! Dennis.

I once had a set just like them clamped onto my right shoulder! I ended up sat on my “bum” 10 feet away 2 seconds later! black and blue for a week!!!Two days later the vet came and had his “nuts” off! I put them in the Fleet Engineers butty box! You should have heard the commotion in the canteen at lunch time! Dennis.

You were lucky the Fleet Engineer never had your “nuts” off Dennis :open_mouth: .
Cheers Dave.

I think it’s a Rolls.

The mechanic:
I think it’s a Rolls.

It dosen’t sound too healthy what ever it is Robert! Dennis.

Bewick:

loader8:
definately not a ■■■■■■■

Its not an 8LXB either!! maybe an AEC 505,wheres “Trev” when he’s needed? Bewick.

220 rolls, yuk! top speed 55mph if you was lucky

The mechanic:
I think it’s a Rolls.

You would need a lot of rolls to get Dennis and the horses nuts into Robert  .

Do you know I can’t help thinking (as a newcomer here) that if/when these pictures and solid proof do appear there will be something missing from this site, a bit like discovering the truth abut Santa, or the tooth fairy.

People will be talking about the ‘good old days’…

What we need to do Dave is get carryfast to proclaim there was no such vehicle as a Guy Big J 240 Gardner.Dennis will then tell us all that there was and carry fast is talking his usual rubbish. Problem solved.

Robert, you have hit the nail on the head,if only we could have thought of that months ago.I will PM Carryfast post haste  .
Cheers Dave.

Yea but you can also claim to be an “old 'and” "Bender"as you can remember the earlier Bewick years, fair play they only tret you as a “grease monkey” but nevertheless you were there looking after my interests at the “other end” like!!!I’m not going to say on the Thread that you made a balls of it!!! But they didn’t take a lot of notice of you did they? Well I suppose you were only 14 at the time!!! having not had a lot on to-day I’ve sorted out another 500/600 photos better than what I’ve been putting on the thread up to date IMO.One of them shows TEC204m without its bumper while it was away being chromium plated! None of our lads at Milnthorpe were allowed fancy bumpers! Cheers Dennis.

Dave the Renegade:

I recieved this from David Edwards this morning, the original advert for the 8LXB Guy Big J,third from the bottom in the Guy column.

That advert is defo suspect Dave with the word “fitted” being used! and if it was Chaddesley Commercials,I rest my case! Dennis.

If you cast your eagle eye a couple of places up Dennis, they have also got a Big J with a 220 ■■■■■■■ fitted.Just admit it Dennis, you are on the ropes,it’s only a matter of time before the ref stops the contest :open_mouth:  .
Cheers Dave.

If you look close that ad actually has a comma after ■■■■■■■ 220 and the ‘fitted’ seems to relate to the ally body or donkey engine on the trailer that they’re obviously flogging with the unit    .

The mechanic:

:open_mouth:

IF we get positive proof of this Guy, can we look for a Foden with a Detroit diesel next?

hiya,
Phew, all quiet on the Western Front.
thanks harry long retired.

Trev_H:
IF we get positive proof of this Guy, can we look for a Foden with a Detroit diesel next?

Or a Foden with a Leyland O.680?

Positive “proof” has already been supplied by numerous drivers, mechanics, etc etc, just because Denis and Co will not accept these guys word, and photographs appear lacking in detail, does in no way suggest they did not exist.

hiya,
I dont think anybody does’nt believe the elusive motor does’nt exist the query is was any off the ASSEMBLY LINE with the 240 installed the chassis according to a pal of mine was’nt constructed to accept the engine and would have needed extensive modifications to fit the lump would this have been worthwhile for a mere thirty motors, possibly another company bought the thirty motors and did the mods for SOM but it does seem rather odd to me i drove the Big Js and for the most part the power pack they came out of the factory with was more than adequate for thirty two tons operation.
