Looks like a lot of rubbish in the cab and laid around the chassis!

Hiya …I would say that GUY was a flying machine in its day… you can see the turbo at the end of the manifold
which says 290 rolls. I think some ■■■■■■■ turbo,s was on the back of the engine but not as far back as the rolls
Any how its not a 8 lxb or a 8lxb/d sorry to say.IICR that guy was a motor show vehical when new.
just been a root round the net and it is a ■■■■■■■ engine and the truck was a 44 ton chassis
John

Definitely a 14ltr ■■■■■■■■ on a Rolls (280 in a Guy) the exhaust exits the turbo on the l/hand side.
The ■■■■■■■ has the exhaust stack as this one is, on the r/hand side. You tell them apart a mile away !

HI - thanks to whoever linked to my pic!

THis is the 44 ton prototype Guy Big J - latterly used as a recovery lorry.
It has the 9 speed Fuller and the ■■■■■■■ is rated at 252HP - although it has the same block as the 290 and could be uprated to that value.

There is a new cab waiting for it so fingers crossed it may reappear!

Did it have power steering?

Dennis, all the guys we had with the big ■■■■■■■ in had power assisted steering, they were noticably nose heavy with that lump more so than the gardner and were lethal if driven solo on wet roads !

Hiya Trev only one of our 6 Big Js had P/S,it was an Rreg '76.It was Ram assited same as the Mastiff’s,all our other tractors over the years had the integral steering box ZF on them.Oh and My D1000 had ram power as well.Cheers Dennis.

This was the Big J we had with power steering, and it had neither a ■■■■■■■ nor a RR engine so blow me it must have had an 8LXB in it! You couldn’t see the back of the engine for the cowl–but it stuck out a bit!!! Cheers Dennis.

I had many a night out in a big J day cab, you could manage with 2 half boards and a mattress if it had the high bonnet.
The best ones for kipping in were fitted with the V8 perkins, with no passenger seat and completely flat floor there was loads of room.

■■■■■■■ V6?

I had an R reg just like that with a 180 gardner, fuller 9 speed, that too had power steering, no picture but it was painted in Unipart colours the reg was AWL 858R.

Thats interesting Trev,I wish ours had had the Fuller instead of the 6spd O/D it would have improved them no end.We did have an ERF with a 609 Fuller behind the 180 and it could (zb) all over the Guy’s.Dennis.

No Perkins 510 V8, the ■■■■■■■ V6 one was a dog!
they were only 28t artics they had a 5 speed box with 2 speed axle and Dunlop maxaret anti skid on the rear axle.
EOG 491 L is one which is in Nick Baldwins BRS book. Identifiable by the twin air intake stacks at the back of the cab.
