Hiya,
Yes Chris, good thinking my old mate, you can easily incorporate Guy spotting
into your horse manure collection service, by the way do you deliver your end
product to the Durham area I could do with a couple of hundredweight to top
up my leek trench,
thanks harry, long retired.
Good morning to all on this thread.
It is with much sadness that I have to let you all know that my Dad ex Smith of Maddison driver Tommy Doyle passed away on Thursday 26th October.
Dad was a night Trunker in the 70s out of all the wagons he drove ND888 A Guy big j 240 GARDNER was his dream machine at the time.
Don’t matter who denies the 240 existence. My dad drove one for 3 years from new at Smiths. I rode in this truck myself on many many occasions as a lad.
Tommy had Dementia. He didn’t know what day of the week it was sometimes. But the mere mention of a GUY big j 240 had him reminiscing for hours on end.
Here are a few pictures I have saved.
Tommys funeral will be held on Monday 6th November @12.45@queen a cross funeral home then onto lambhill cemetery
God bless you dad may you rest in peace

Thank you Dennis. Yes he would have been the type of driver you would have employed. proper old school. much respect Denis #rockontommy
Sorry to hear of the loss of your father. Unfortunately many lorry men of that era are no longer with us. My father who also worked for Smiths of Maddiston out of their Manchester depot in the 60`s, died two years ago. I also spent many a happy days riding all over the country with my dad. My father also worked for many years for McKelvie out of Manchester on both night trunk and on days.
Please accept my heart felt condolences.
Rest in Peace Tommy.
GBW.
