Tossco and Sainsbugs only guarantee 6 hrs … I’ve always made it clear How MUCH I’m getting paid and The MINIMUM hours I’m to be paid before taking any job… I’ve even got them to text me this which then becomes part of the contract of work.
When this came in at Tossco Harlow I just stopped working there. Simples.

The agency i work for is normally guaranteed 8hrs, but there are exceptions - Royal Mail only guarantee 4hrs,
When I was with Manpower/RM we were guaranteed 8 hours if you weren’t under AWR. If under AWR then its the same as RM drivers which is a minimum of 6 hours. Unpaid breaks also follow the same pattern as employed drivers.
The good thing about guaranteed hours is that you don’t get an unpaid meal relief knocked off the defined “flat shift”.
RM deduct as much as 90 minutes from a shift longer than 12 hours from their actual full time staff.
Agencies might knock off 45 minutes or an hour.
Thus, you might find yourself working 9 hours and getting paid 8, and also working 7 hours at the same depot - and getting paid 8.
…So one could argue that it’s not the getting or not getting of “guaranteed hours” so much, as the “job and knock” aspect that might be built into it.
I prefer guaranteed money as opposed to ‘guaranteed hours’.

I work for 3 agencies and know that one charges 39% or £3.90 for each £10 you earn. They do have to pay holiday pay and other costs out of that.
Then please do explain what holiday pay is paid, as these days there are no employee agency drivers, thanks to HMRC changing the goalposts last year, and what ‘other’ costs there are?
Ken.
Holiday pay is money I get paid to sit at home from my agency like 4 days this last week. Don’t you get it?
What goalposts did HMRC change last year because nothing changed with me?
Brucewillis:
I did a shift last week through an agency. I only worked 6 hrs, that’s all they needed me for. ( I didn’t know that when I started the shift). Got my payslip today, paid for 6 hrs at £8.00 ph.
It was always my understanding that if you turned up for an agency shift you were guaranteed eight hours pay.
Depends on the agency. Whats it say on your contract. Some I’ve been with guarantee 4, others 8.
Its all dependant on the detail in the contract the agency negotiated with the client, & its effect on the pay guarantee between the agency & driver.
Likewise with the pay guarantee when jobs are cancelled 1-4hrs before the start time. Very few jobs I do pay less than the 8hr min, but not all have the pre-shift cancellation pay clause
But always ask the rate for the job & if its 8hrs guaranteed before taking the shift …

Wrong
All agency drivers@ Tesco/Sainsburys(DFDS contract) Northern Ireland are guaranteed min 8hrs pay UNLESS you opt to go home early if all remaining loads are “covered” for that shift.
Me
I’d rather just sit and drink coffee@ £10/11hr in the canteen for a couple of hours before signing out
ALL you agency drivers who have completed the 12wk qualifing period under AWR should make yourselves aware of Regulation5, the rights under this AWR Regulation are in NO WAY affected by signing a Regulation10 “Swedish Derogation” its ONLY the right to equal pay,
NOTHING else
If your are in ANY way being treated differently compared to the full time drivers basic employment terms and conditions put in a grievance and challenge it via LRA or Tribunal.
You WILL win if its genuine or Agency/company will back down and offer a nice wee settlement
I take no **** from them AT ALL and have been backed by Unite Union on THREE AWR “issues” over the past 2yrs and ALL were settled in the agency drivers favour

At £8 an hour it’s hardly worth getting out of bed for 6 hours pay
That’s the average for agency work in Newcastle, some might pay a little more.
Do they charge you for the Vaseline? Do they actually treat you to Vaseline?
You dont need vaseline to know, a simple economic fact…There is eff-all up here, too many people arnt at work, due to the historical fact of ,when the ■■■■ hits the fan,the north often gets sold down the river,by polititions and buissness…at lot of posters put the ‘I earn that much money,it gets dropped off in a container BS’…I notice you all seem to live down the south.
The only saving grace about the crap rate is ,Ive ran into drivers from Wales and Devon and Cornwall areas…who would like to paid £8 an hour

£8 per hour isn’t bad for the North IMHO, I know people on much less. Better still if you get time + half after 8, on a Sat and double on a Sun…
I’ve just had a weekend in London, and average price for a pint of bitter for me and a vodka and diet coke for the missus was around 11 quid, same in my local is 7.50 - 9 quid depending if she has a double. A black cab for around 4 miles was 15 quid, same around here is half that. Using the tube in the centre was about 4 - 4.50 each. Parking (if I’d took a car) was silly expensive, then you’ve got the congestion charge etc.
I’ve stayed all over the country with work, and the south is quite pricey for eating and drinking, houses are also generally more expensive… I’m not just talking London there either.
I am on agency and I’m on £9 per hour with time + half after 8. I’ve worked for agencies that pay £10.50 / hr, but that’s a straight through rate, swings and roundabouts.
I’ve also worked for companies that don’t pay massive rates per hour, but guarantee you 10 - 11hrs, so the weekly wage is half decent guaranteed - then usually an overtime rate after those 10-11hrs.
Minimum hours is usually dictated by customer/ contract, Transline for wincanton on B&Q 8 hours guaranteed, transline for wincanton on Asda 6 hours guaranteed.
But when they get disparate they will guarantee up to 10 hours.

You’ve paid West End prices Wayne, bit different. Can’t remember the last time I got a minicab never mind a black cab. None of the ■■■■■ want to go south of the river anyway! An Oyster card is what locals use to keep the cost down on tubes, trains and buses. You probably weren’t aware of that as a visitor. Parking can be had at a reasonable rate, google is your friend. Congestion charge only applies Mon-Fri 0700-1830 (I think) something that doesn’t impact on most locals because we avoid it. As for eating out you can pay whatever you want really even in the West End, there’s McDonalds there too! Houses are artificially expensive, for many reasons. If we wanted to buy our house now there’s no way we could afford it and it’s nowt grand! It doesn’t matter how you slice it, I wouldn’t be driving 40 miles for 6 hours @ £8 wherever I was!

Just because £8 is better than some other ■■■■ rate doesn’t make it anywhere near good? It’s the availability of saps willing to sell an expensively obtained licence for pin money that keeps the rates down. Get a job in your local stupidmarket.

Oh and I did a stint in a supermarket…didnt like working weekends,at least with driving, you can shut out opininated numptys out…weather they are customers or ‘fellow drivers’

Robots 'to work in supermarkets’20 December 2013 Last updated at 12:26 GMT
The sound of “please put your item in the bagging area” has often provided irritation to a number of supermarket customers when using computerised check-outs but a new innovation could mean a more personalised service from a robot.
BBC Click’s Ian Hardy meets the robot engineered to look after you and your shopping at the check-out.

You will have to tell us the name of the agency as others working for them might have experience of this.
Of the two agencies I’ve used its always been 8 hours minimum (mentioned at initial meeting) and rate quoted on the phone, calls I try and record, sure theres an app to auto record calls from certain numbers.
My record is 8 hours pay for 15 minutes work, turned up, job cancelled, got time sheet signed (to prove I was there), off I skiped.
Think this is beatable if your ever asked to do a city-link
I was told this by a good friend and it was him that it happened to, though I’m not 100% sure it’s true.
He had interview at City link for a full time job loading on nights, got the job, turned up first night, told by the shift manager to go sit in the canteen, he fell asleep, woke up 4 hours later, assumed he would be in trouble and it wasn’t really a good start, decided to call it a day and go home approx. 2am, never heard anything from them, 1 month later a full months salary in the bank, month 2 same again, he says this carried on for 4 years and only stopped when he didn’t relocate with them. he says he got over £50k off them, he did buy a smart 4x4 to this day he says it’s true.
If it is true he was lucky that they never twigged on. Same happened to me, I left salaried postition and they paid me further two months. I kept quiet and used it to pay credit card bill. When they realised I had to pay it back ( it is the law ) but i strung the payments over 24 months (as advised by a knowledgable friend) as this would be deemed acceptable had they tried to take me to court. They did hassle me a fair bit and even employed a debt collection agency, but i sttod my ground and they accepted my payment terms.
I’m not on the Royal Mail contract, but the agency i work for won’t accept the work unless it’s an 8hr shift because they know it’s not worth it after the travelling expenses are taken out, and no one would do it unless they lived next door to the depot anyway!
The agency I’m with, I’m on a guaranteed 10hrs, £8.50 p/h, £11.50 p/h after 10hrs. Saturdays are £13.50p/h, guaranteed 10hrs, Sundays £15 p/h same again, guaranteed 10hrs.
