Guaranteed eight hours for agency shift?

If you look on your contract what you signed when you registered with the agency it should tell you on there. The minimum hours you should be paid is 8 as thats what the agencies get paid on all contracts they take on. You need to ask why you have not been paid the 8 hours

Tesco began the attack on the 8 hour minimum at the height of the recession & now they wonder why they can’t get enough drivers.

Tossco and Sainsbugs only guarantee 6 hrs … I’ve always made it clear How MUCH I’m getting paid and The MINIMUM hours I’m to be paid before taking any job… I’ve even got them to text me this which then becomes part of the contract of work.[/qu

Sainsbury’s at Sherburn started to pay only for 6 hours about 3 years ago, but could not get any drivers on sundays when only short shifts so only lasted about 3 weeks.

Seems all agencies are different some pay hours worked some min 8 others 4 but go over 4 then 8.

Simple answer to this … Next time they need a drive tell them to stick it :exclamation:
Then leave the blood sucking agency which I have no doubt charged a minimum 8 hours at about 4 times what you get an hour and find a proper job.

I am no great fan of agencies, but I think you exaggerate.

They probably were only able to charge for the hours worked and at maybe £1 per hour over the pay rate.

I work for 3 agencies and know that one charges 39% or £3.90 for each £10 you earn. They do have to pay holiday pay and other costs out of that.

At £8 an hour it’s hardly worth getting out of bed for 6 hours pay

That’s the average for agency work in Newcastle, some might pay a little more.

Who are you with?, I was getting more than that over 2 years ago in Newcastle. Where you starting in the new year?

REALLY■■?

Thats ridiculous. £48 in the bank before the tax man gets his hands on it! Sorry, im lost for words.

And thats getting to the top end of the scales for the north east…Due to living in a ‘depressed area’,unfortunatly the parasites take the ■■■■

I get £13 PH but that’s mainly Saturdays which is fine by me as I only work Saturdays (oh and bank holidays).

Minimum 8 with 3/4 reduction for over 8, don’t think I’ve ever worked 8 3/4 hours, if it goes over 8 I spend another 3/4 at the RDC on POA (Payment On Account), perhaps its a bit naughty but any period I’m not being paid for will be doubled by me as I need double the amount of ‘exclusive re-couperation’ due to the stress of not being paid for any amount of time when I’m at work.

zzarbean:
With my agency I am guaranteed 8 hours, I’m also guaranteed to be paid the rate I’m quoted BEFORE accepting the job.

As most of my work now is for regular contacts I don’t always need to ask the rate but if offered a different job I want to know the rate and expected duration before accepting the booking. My agency is pretty straight up but if they started playing silly burgers then I’d want the details confirmed by text.

As far as I know, the above is the norm rather than the execption.

If you don’t get “8 hours paid guaranteed” offered to you in writing BEFORE commencing the shift, then look for another agency.
If you let yourself be palmed-off and conned, then you will be.

I just laughed out loud at Winseer strutting around like Yoda (all wise and that) despite the fact he spends most if his time on TruckNet moaning about how he’s unable to make a decent living.

You agency guys are funny.

When I do work via an agency, I have agreement for a minimum of 8 hours.

When working direct for a company as a self-employed driver, I agree 10 hours minimum.

On both I agree it writing up front when you sign up etc.

Got booked for a job once, 3am start - turned up “sorry Drive, the run’s been cancelled - do you mine hanging about for a bit in-case we need you…?” - no probs, gave them my mobile number and said I’d be in the car - went and parked in a quiet corner of the yard, best 8 hours kip I’ve ever had, being paid to snooze in the car!!!

You’re gonna have to take me back to those posts of mine you refer to where I moan about me personally not being able to make a decent living. I have moaned about the decline in the industry for all of us as far as I know…

Then please do explain what holiday pay is paid, as these days there are no employee agency drivers, thanks to HMRC changing the goalposts last year, and what ‘other’ costs there are?

Ken.

Brucewillis:
I did a shift last week through an agency. I only worked 6 hrs, that’s all they needed me for. ( I didn’t know that when I started the shift). Got my payslip today, paid for 6 hrs at £8.00 ph.

It was always my understanding that if you turned up for an agency shift you were guaranteed eight hours pay.

Depends on the agency. Whats it say on your contract. Some I’ve been with guarantee 4, others 8.

Is this something anyone else has experienced?

Manpower used to pay min 8 hours, but they reduced this to 6 hours, not sure when the change was, but think it was earlier this year
It might have been about the time they made changes to workers conditions in line with AWR, after 12 weeks they get same rights as if they were employed directly by the hirer, pay, duration of working time, night work, rest periods, rest breaks and annual leave

I find its best to look dissapointed as the chap in the transport office may not realise your being paid anyway.
Always ask them to sign your time sheet and write across it ‘Job cancelled by customer’. Its tough walking to the car but always just about manage to hold my jump for joy till I get out of sight.

Once the jobs cancelled we are easily forgotten so I always go home and to date have never been called, if I was I would just say give us 30 minutes I’ve popped up the road for a coffee and a bite to eat, in which time no-doubt the job would suddenly become urgent and they would give it to the next agency bloke to turn up.

Many years ago city-link where well known for having drivers standing around (or in my case at home in bed) waiting for work to be offered, not sure if its the same now.

I’ve not used a time sheet for years. Just txt or email hours to whichever agency. Certainly have not had anything signed by the firm for a long time.

Dipper_Dave:
You will have to tell us the name of the agency as others working for them might have experience of this.

Of the two agencies I’ve used its always been 8 hours minimum (mentioned at initial meeting) and rate quoted on the phone, calls I try and record, sure theres an app to auto record calls from certain numbers.

My record is 8 hours pay for 15 minutes work, turned up, job cancelled, got time sheet signed (to prove I was there), off I skiped.

Think this is beatable if your ever asked to do a city-link

I was told this by a good friend and it was him that it happened to, though I’m not 100% sure it’s true.

He had interview at City link for a full time job loading on nights, got the job, turned up first night, told by the shift manager to go sit in the canteen, he fell asleep, woke up 4 hours later, assumed he would be in trouble and it wasn’t really a good start, decided to call it a day and go home approx. 2am, never heard anything from them, 1 month later a full months salary in the bank, month 2 same again, he says this carried on for 4 years and only stopped when he didn’t relocate with them. he says he got over £50k off them, he did buy a smart 4x4 to this day he says it’s true.

trampyjoe:
I get paid for hours worked, no more no less (well, ok sometimes less). Never heard of a guaranteed number of hours paid.

Well now you have so no excuse!
