today I have been informed by my bosses at my depot ( wincanton M18 J1), that the current contract that we work for, which we knew was up for renewal/re-tender has been lost, siting finacial costings by us to the suppliers.
I`m told the warehouse op has been awarded to a new site being built near wilkos some 10 miles away (innovate),
and the transport op has been awarded to another Company in thorn - Doncaster (GCT).
We are told that we under TUPE we will be transfered to the relivant sites, so long as there is a job for that person on the new site. (read that as They are gonna cherry pick the best and make the rest redundant).
this leaves a total of 278 peeps (inc transport, warehouse, admin, and management) in limbo till the the details are thrashed out with the new opperators (GCT and innnovate).
the time scale for this to happen is starting to ramp down and transfer the opperations from mid-june finally ceasing opperations by 31st july on the contract, there is a small amount of work which will remain on the site as we run for the pasta Company at Scunthorpe & Barton (which coincedently burned down a week ago
)
Advice please…sit it out, transfer, or get out with some redunancy ££
sounds bad news, does this also include the reefers? only my mates wife is a tm there.
I would never advise anyone in your circumstances peirre but can only give a view as to what I would do. For what its worth I would sit tight for a while and get as much information as I can, and whilst treating it with some caution try and build a picture of what the new regime will be like and if I would fit were I to be invited to join. Your in a difficult position not knowing the facts is probably the hardest part because if you did then you could plan accordingly.
Is GCT an Innovate company? we at PH have just been aquired by Innovate but what I have managed to determine so far is they are not a bad outfit to work for.
Do not envy you, depends whether your a worrier or not but try and remain objective. Best wishes.
its early yet as to what is finally gonna happen, but my guess is the transfer will only be the peeps and not the property, tractors & reefers.
Im not a worrier, far from it, I could easily wait, take the money and forget about it. in fact my reaction at 1st hearing the story from 1 of the other drivers as I parked the tractor up this afternoon was "can I be the 1 to lock the gate" I
ve been made redundant before, so it holds no fear with me. but there are some who are at an age where further full time employment will be unlikely.
but there is plenty of work for drivers in the area, if this job folds
its also strange because I was chatting to 1 of the other drivers (from the milton keynes chilled hub) at an RDC and was told that, that depot is closing at the end of the week.
sorry to hear that peirre i would sit tight for a while and see what happens but remember if a job comes along consider it cos those wont be transfering might all be looking at the same jobs soon enough.
Sit tight… You might find that a lot of peeps jupm ship in the next few weeks, which will leave you in a better position to get one of the new jobs… If not, then there’s the redundency to think about…
Luv
Chrisie…
Re info req`d:
i was thinking more on the lines of my legal rights under TUPE, rights under redundancy etc.
Does TUPE still apply if the new hauliers are not based on the original site (mine), and have only been awarded the contract for there site?
Doe I have to accept transfer to the new job/employer under TUPE?
i see it as my job will be ending (redundant) and possible being offered a job by the new hauliers …Y/N?
to be honest, I and most of the other drivers don`t really want to work for GCT.
Has any of you worked for them?
what are they like?
Sorry to hear your news peirre and I hope everything works
out for the best for you and the other drivers.
