Group 2 medical

Would a HGV driver who had a heart attack and got a stent (angioplasty) be a group 2 medical fail?

Not necessarily , obliged to do the treadmill test afterwards . If you pass that you should be good to go .

well, heres the thing…

for my TAXI badge i have to have a group 2 hgv/bus medical, but what we actually have is “how tall are you, how heavy, can you read that sign”, thats £45 please, a complete farce in reality and a disgrace, no contact with a drivers GP…

If you already have a class C or D licence then they’ll likely suspend that bit until you’ve done the appropriate medical tests (treadmill etc) then it’ll go to the DVLA docs to approve. That should happen when you inform DVLA at time of event rather than at next medical.

If you not got that on licence, it’ll have to go on the form then they’ll pass it to the medical section of DVLA who’ll want you to do treadmill etc and might slow down provisional being added to licence a bit while they review.

Lots of people drive HGVs after heart attacks. Apparently they get worried if theres more than a 2% chance of it happening again for HGV / PSV.

See sudden events bit of this for a little more info, although its only an outline:
