I’m not surprised gritter drivers take a bit of stick, but probably no more than we do. I recall an instant many years ago when I was struggling up a long hill at 25mph at 0830 in the morning, when I reached the crest of the hill I pulled into a layby to let the traffic pass. Just about every other driver gave me a wave and a blast on the horn, either a one fingered gesture or a two fingered gesture One guy pulled in with a Porsche, I blew him a kiss and he drove off

I refuse to pull into laybys to let traffic pass…the government has slowed us down enough, I’m not letting my average drop further by pulling in to let joe public past and not let me out again.

Dont complain if you get abuse then
Don’t worry, I won’t. I give as good as I get…plus, I’ve never had any comments from other motorists so far on the issue.

Correct me if im wrong but you dont grit at up to full legal speed anyway ?
Usually when i see gritters in progress its no where near the permitted speed limits.
there is an optimum speed for gritting etc - the local ones to me are tracked by GPS to ensure they do not exceed a particular speed when gritting - they get disciplined if they do !!

just got back from a 12hr gritting shift up in the lake district, ours are restricted to 34 when gritting but the roads we play on were lucky doing half that in some spots, very tight but fun tho!

the operator or the gritter truck itself
“bad gritter truck - very naught of you, no bed time story for you tonight before bed”
