So you have been at the place for 5yrs, yet you don’t get enough night’s out…ummmm, I wonder why you’re still there after all that time, the job market was healthy until a couple of years ago, it sounds to me that you don’t like it because somebody else has got a bit of cream, the new bloke may have been given the job on merit, you may have been there longer, but in business that means SFA, the newer bloke may just be a bit better at the job than you
Or, he could be BS’ing about the extra money and then the bossman would be a fool to give you the night’s out because you’d be more expensive. That happens all too often I’m afraid, I’ve known blokes offer to take a pay cut to get a new lorry/longer runs
Is the cream driver one of those who goes in on his day off to clean his lorry?

Fuzzyboy is driver “d” and thinks Kirky7 is a Looser? IMHO
Technically the vacancy should be advertised, but only if it involves a change to your contract or a new position is formally created. I would assume that your contract probably covers nights out “reasonable request, as and when required blah blah”. Is it a permanent change or just for a few weeks or months. He may do it for a while, then it may get passed over to you or one of the other drivers.
Its the same if your employer decided to promote one of you to Senior Driver, he doesn’t need your permission to do so.
What you could do is formally request (by a memo etc) to your employer that if any nights away become available that you are considered for the work.
I doubt a grievance would get you anywhere other that further down the pecking order, and closer to the exit door if the boss lost a contract or two.

.
Who says so?
If it affects your contract then fair enough but in the OP it didn’t affect his contract or his terms and conditions. He remained exactly the same.

So, I’m in need of some advice before I open a can of worms and put some nose’s out of joint. I work for a medium sized family firm (2 depots running 75 motors), and at our yard are 5 rigids and 5 units. Now my problem is this, the 5 of us on rigids all do the odd night out now and then but we all keep requesting more. The drivers length of service is:
Driver A - 12yrs
Driver B - 6yrs
Driver C - 5yrs (me)
Driver D - 15mths
Driver E - 2mthsSo, my beef is this. Driver D throws a strop saying he is gonna leave cos he cant get the nights out in that he’s used to (tough in my opinion cos you knew what you were signing up for). Now he aint anyone special for the job unlike drivers A, B, & C who are all ADR trained. But the other week the gaffer decides he is gonna create a tramping position and he is gonna give it to driver D to stop him leaving

Now this new job wasn’t advertised or offered to anybody else, we were just told this is whats happening so deal with it.
Now before some of you think I’m just having a whinge and a moan, let me say this…this guy is now taking home on average £125 a week more than the rest of us
So any advice would be appreciated guys n gals
Jase
Well! As many on this forum have pointed out it the past - it is a case - according to them - of supply & demand!
So he can supply what is in demand - simples!
Nite - nite - all.

Well if I aint got a case I might just have to knee-cap the knob on to sick leave for a bit![]()

Is he? Personally I’d quite happily set that against sleeping in me own bed every night and having a nice comfortable bog down the landing to go have a dump in next morning, rather than the dubious comforts of a lay-by in the middle of nowhere.
When I was working for Owens a few years ago I didn’t mind being out all week since if I was on days it cost me more in fuel to commute; plus my relationship with my former other half wasn’t too great then and it gave us both a bit of space. Sod that now, whilst I don’t mind nighting out at need I wouldn’t want it by choice, and anyone who counts his night out money as extra income is living in cloud cuckoo land anyway.
get your class one.
OMG! i think im driver D! if u could do job aswell as me u might get the nights out! CRYBABY TAKE YOUR BALL HOME!
Stop your whining, he’s getting the extra £125 because he’s putting the big shifts in plus nights out.
Tell your boss your leavin’ unless you get the nights out, maybe he’ll create a trampin’ job just for you.

I can do the job better as I am ADR and he is not.

And if u wanna meet up sometime big mouth I will show u cry baby. ■■■■■■■ like you make me puke. U can make your mouth by typing away at your keyboard (in-between looking at kiddie ■■■■ no doubt). I simply asked for advice but cockheads like you think u know it all. But in reality u know JACK ■■■■!!! So go back to sitting by your phone and wait for your agency to ring cos 1 of us proper drivers fancies a day off, so an afterbirth like you can put in a days graft!!!
ha ha your the ■■■■ hes on more money then u and still to do adr. u give us real drivers a bad name
The official line was " Your too valuable on days with ADR"…so this meet ■■■■ features■■?
im open to locations but i b nighting out all week unlike some. and dont bother scratching me car
Driver D is earning no more than you. The night out money is not his wage. It’s there to pay for him to park up/eat etc. He’s effectively minding someone’s truck all week each night for nowt…and therefore is, in my view worse off than you…especially in the winter when you’re at home nice and warm and he’s freezing his nads off in a truckstop or lay-by somewhere wondering if someone is gonna trash him in and nick his load/fuel or both…
I know which job you need to be doing to be the ■■■■ here and it’s not yours, so stop moaning!!!
