Gregory's artic blown over on southbound M5 between 22-23

I was driving down the M5 heading south at just gone 6am thismorning. The wind was really bad in places & at one point I was hit by a gust of wind & I have to be honest I almost crapped myself :open_mouth: :open_mouth: . I’ve been driving artics for just over 2yrs & for the first time i thought i was gonna be blown over. My first reaction was to take foot off the accelerator & pray

Up quite away in front was another truck. One minute it was upright the next it was on its side. I hit the breaks & put hazards on & all the traffic came to an abrupt stop. Guy must of ■■■■ himself :open_mouth: A few trucks stopped including another Gregory’s truck & the driver seemed alright.

2 lanes were closed & as far as i no remained closed for some time.

Not the best way to start your day!!

One thing that makes me wonder in amazement in the wind is when you are literally being blown across lanes and people in cars are trying to overtake and flashing lights bipping horns at you…

Thick or what.

Glad to hear driver was ok.

I came past there this morning too, they where coning it off and the other Gregory’s artic was still there.

Cannon commercials came up and recovered it, so it was gone by the time I passed northbound. The crash barrier on hard shoulder took some impact.

Had been wondering what had took it over so neatly there, didn’t realise it had been that windy.

Theres a link with a few pics on this local website http://www.burnham-on-sea.com/news/2008/lorry-overturns-on-m5-04-12-08.php

Gunner and I used to work for them

glad the driver is ok it looks scary stuff. :open_mouth:

always a sad sight to see a wagon on its side,

glad the driver was ok.

what is the best thing to do if you feel you are going to be blown over (apart from hang on for dear life). is there anything you can do to try to stop it going over or is it just a case of “ok im going over, time for the well boss phone call!”

i think lee that it is just a case of hold on tight and brace yourself then once your over brush yourself down for the “well boss”.
