Gregory Distribution - Shepton Mallet depot

Hi there. That’s my first post on this forum, so I’d like to say hello to all truckers.
I’ve just applied on Class 1 driving job at Gregory in Shepton Mallet. Can anybody who has or had experience with them tell me more about a job itself and atmosphere overthere?
What salary should I expect depending on shift or rota?
What are the places their delivering to?
Are you picking up pre-loaded trailer or you have to load it by yourself?
I’ve met couple of trucks on Booker’s depots and all of drivers seems to be in bit of rush, so any review from you guys would be helpful.

At Shepton , the artic work is this ;
Day work on local delivery and collection on behalf of pallet networks.

Maybe tail lift drops using a pump truck to unload, some pallets can weigh a ton or more, such as paving slabs, compost or turf.

Or day work leaving with a pre loaded trailer on distance work.

Or a yard shunter, shunting between other depots.
Or as a full time relief or casual driver, you may be on nights out away all week to cover a driver holidays in his truck.
Night shifts available to pallet depots.

Garage door delivery contract on class two, nights out or home at night.

Bring your own lube.

As well as James Wellbeloved the other trading names are Royal Canin.
The Royal Canin pet food factory is in Castle Cary, six miles South of Shepton, it is owned by the Mars group of multi international companies.
The day shunter trunks up the pet food to the Gregory warehouse called Mendip Distrubution Center on Frampton Road, it is picked there and loaded on to trailers on day and night shift picker teams .

There are few Polish workers in the warehouses and a driver called Zibbi and in the main transport office a lady called Imelia,
The main transport operation is based on Crown industrial estate, the night trunkers serve the pallet depots in Perivale London and the Hub at Birmingham and also Hazchem at Rugby .

If you are allocated your own truck full time, you can be away all week or home a few nights a week, depending on the work load, you expected to run legal and will not be asked to do a job that it is not possible to do, if running late for a delivery, let them know in the transport office .

You can wash the truck at the Gregory depot at Cullumpton and if passing by, fuel up there, there is a jet wash at the North Tawton depot .
There is a truck wash in the Shepton yard, press the button for the brush wash , to use the jet wash, ask for tokens in the office .

Secure parking is required and no layby or industrial estate parking overnight, SNAP account is used, where you park up and give the registration plate of the truck, you do not pay on SNAP .

ADR training is paid by the firm , but they may ask you to pay it back if you leave within a time frame, the DCPC is the same, fork lift training is available .
It is possible that you may work as a rigid class two driver for a while then out as class one .
On artic work, there may be one delivery or three to four .

They don’t supply the lube.

Drivers away from base, on a night out are given an App phone, to log on the start of shift and end of shift, the times must correspond with your tachograph time and recording of work, otherwise do a manual entry on the tachograph machine .
If in and out of the yard, a key fob is used to book on and off .
Most trailer will have internal straps and MDC staff will strap it.
If the trailer is loaded for you in the Crown main yard, they will not strap the internals for you .

If a trailer is not fitted with internals, such as a sliding roof, you are required to use ratchet straps which are supplied .
If on a day run, complete the defect check list, and hand in a copy on return to base .
Away all week, get the weekly defect list .

If there is a fault or defect with unit or trailer, do not leave the yard, defect it and the garage will fix it .
