Its a lousy night here in Greece tonight. High winds and rain. There has been a ferry on fire just north of Corfu all day. A lot of those still trapped on board are truckers.
Hopefully they will all get off safely.
One person confirmed dead according to news reports.
Just been reading about that, they reckon it started on the car deck. It looks well ablaze in the photos they’ve got 160 people off out of 480. Not a good place to be at all.
Hi Which ferry is it ? (port to port)
What’s wrong with the lifeboats?

Patras to Ancona.
I’ve done the trip loads of times myself. Nowadays I walk the dog in the afternoons and watch the ferries go up past kefalonia. Most days its calm and sunny. It couldn’t have happened on a worse night. I think they are trying to get it to bari now.

Thanks Coffeeholic. I have shipped minoan lines and superfast but it does look like either of them ?
I think the update so far is 6 dead, r.i.p. and condolences to all concerned. This ship had an inspection this month including the fire doors, and according to reports the fire started on the car deck, hope they manage to rescue the rest of the passengers safely although the weather is supposed to be very bad.
I bet they’ll find dozens bodies of stowaways when they clear the car decks. Last time I was at Ancona, the Italian Police must have dragged two or three dozen off of the axles of inbound trucks on the Patras ferry.

Anek lines
Whilst living in the Brindisi area for three years, we owned a property in Greece and we were backwards and forward on these ferries a lot to Patras. We used Endeavor Lines, Minoan and Superfast but this ferry is run by Anek Lines.
However, I expect they’re pretty much the same, as in get on vehicle deck, look up at the ceiling and see a more than adequate sprinkler system.
Gonna be some interesting questions asked.
The only people allowed on the vehicle decks are travellers with RV’s - the general public and truckers can’t stay with their vehicles in my experience (because they want you to occupy their over priced cabins).
Looking at the media pictures, its evident that the public lounges were gutted by the fire and the bars and restaurants also.
I think its a miracle that the fatalities (so far) have remained in single figures.
There was a guy on Jeremy Vine who used to ship out of Patras and he said he slept in his lifejacket!!! On the countless trips I did, including backwards and forwards to the UK when we lived in Greece, I have never felt the least bit apprehensive.
And Endeavors tub from Brindisi was a tired old thing.
Everybodies off now and safe - top work by the Italian chopper pilots.

I’ve been on the Brindisi and bari to igoumenitsa. Know what you mean.
I did a year running regular Ancona-Patras, using Superfast where possible, then Minoan, last choice was Anek, (they were the Sea France equivalent on the Dover Calais route)
I often slept in my truck if i had to share a cabin, a fellow driver showed me how to get down to the car decks.
I never went on anything as small as the boat on the news today, it looks more like a 2 hour Channel hopping boat rather than something to sit on for 24hours!
The Norman Atlantic isnt particularly small. Its a Visentini, cheap and nasty but very common. Currently Stena run one on Rosslare Cherbourg 18 hour crossing after taking over Celtic Link and two on Belfast Birkenhead
Ah, ok, it just looked like a Dover Calais ferry from what ive seen of it (or in Greee, an island hopper)

It was something like, think it was with LD Lines or something…

Thats the one on fire ,it was Rosslare, St Nazaire, Gijon until October when Ld gave up that route.
The colours look like anek lines, always way down the list of choice only ever used them out of Bari or Brindisi (cant remember which) crap boats and awfull food . didn’t superfast have a fire a few years ago close to Patras
