Greece and Turkey

what’s the craic with tolls/vignettes in Greece and Turkey.
I might be going to Istanbul with beef quite soon.
as far as we know, the job is prety much ours, two loads a week.

Not sure about Greece I think its peage type.
In Turkey somebody I know very well got to the peage and there are no people to take your money so we found a lane with no barrier and drove straight through.

Peages at Greece and Turkey.
If coming from Patras (via Ancona), pay at first payage, drive thru 2nd, pay at 3rd drive thru 4th. When i used to do it regular, it didnt cost more than 10 euros to get to Athens.
And also if youre shipping Ancona-Patras and vice-versa, you will have to pay port tax.
Its a nice drive, enjoy.

don t forget your ciggies/baccie over

If you are using the ferry, Igouminitsa would be the quickest way to Turkey. If you ship into Patras you can use the Rio bridge to get up to Lamia. Miss Athens and about 200 kms out. I used to use that route years ago before the bridge was built, had to use the Rio ferry then. You could only pay the Greek tolls in cash, cant remember how much it used to cost to get to Thessalonika, wasnt much.

Thats the one with no booths.
How did you pay it■■?

if going further than the first peage in istanbul, then the sultan mehmet bridge also requires you to pay and the motorway towards ankara is not free either. make sure that when you pay, you only pay in the amount on the screen, as they like to give you a pre-paid card in return with the amount you would get back, say the toll was 10ytl, you give them a 50, they then will give you back a card with 40 ytl on it, not much use if you’re not living in turkey. paying with euros is a good way to get shafted, the exchange rate will be whatever the person on the peage comes up with.
