Just a warning for any-one venturing near Harrogate 14th - 16th July … it is Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate … to ease traffic flows some roads in Harrogate are changed from 2-way traffic to 1-way flowing into the Show in the mornings … then reversed to 1-way outbound in the afternoon. This entails diversions.
Also expect delays on A1M around Jnc 47 A59 ( known as Allerton Park ) … this is the signed access route to the Show … in previous years there have been long tailbacks on the Motorway to exit at this Jnc - both North & South Bound … been a few near-misses with traffic not realising that there is standing traffic on the Motorway.
Just a “heads-up” from a “local-yokel”
Im going for the day rustler, what would you says the best way in pal,im coming from ponty.
I went last year, I live at Ponte. If you go up the A1 and come off on the A59. Then from the Knaresborough roundabouts where the car showrooms are it’s 2 lanes going straight into Harrogate right up to the showground all the way past The Kestrel.
It’s reversed on your way out, 2 lanes south on Wetheby road. Was in and out no longer than it would take normally.
Seth … you can go that way from Jnc 47 … or, come off at Jnc 45 ( Boston Spa - where "weight-watchers weighbridge is ) … then go down into Wetherby then follow to Harrogate … BUT, I have a feeling that when you get to Harrogate by-pass, this is where the route goes to 2-lanes into the Show, this roundabout will be very busy and the Show route will have priority ( if that makes sense
) … probably just as easy to go to Jnc 47 and follow signed route.
They have used this one-way system for a few years now … seems to work quite well for access to the Show … jus a bugger for every-one else
Cheers rustler,me and the whippet is having the day out,im hoping to drop on a posh country type dorris
Don’t forget your cloth cap in case the sun shines Seth
I’m here at the mo’. Traffic congestion building up and yellow signs just about everywhere. They usually cut all the hedges along the road to make it look nice for everyone arriving, but haven’t done it for a couple of years now. Anyway, the harrogateadvertiser will probably have all the route details, etc. Looks set to be a nice day tomorrow, weatherwise.
Apart from seth and his whipppet, anyone else going or have to travel through the mayhem?
I’ve delivered to the show today and have to collect Thursday evening ,this time I will be coming over from Preston on the A59 should I expect any hold ups it will be about 5 ish .
First time going tomorrow travelling from hull so just going to follow signs from wetherby services junction !
I came down the A1 and came off the jct 47/A59 to York at about 5pm and all was flowing well. The wet wether must have had something to do with it as it’s normally gridlocked.

Harrogate is gridlocked at the best of times especially trying to get across town from the a59. Yes, I would envisage it will be fairly busy although traffic should be going out of town at that time. Good luck and be patient I guess
I’m back home now but going back on Wed evening so the roads should be fairly empty then.
Dan Punchard, will you be in the truck that you showed earlier on?
No ,going in pick up thankfully, seen one or 2 sunk in grass yesterday and some of those roads in the show ground are not overly wide for 2 to pass .
Anyone going to Harrogate in a wagon carry on to bourghbridge and go through Ripon we always went that way on show week adds about 10 -15 mins on but saves a lot of time queuing in the traffic
Goldilox:
Did you go then?
No didnt go in the end pal, because there was only me and the dog going and it was no dogs allowed i cancelled my day off and worked ,everybody i know was working i wasnt going by myself ,bit sad
