Wow, a few old stamping grounds for me there, even in a Stralis I wouldn’t mind doing that trip - just for old times’ sake.

Thanks for that willie, like spardo saya brings back good (and some bad) memories, bad being the bleeding heat and having to change wheels and tyres but good cos the open road, no traffic and just…well fantastic

Oh and not forgetting the ‘ladies’ in Townsville

Have you got any pics from Oz, love to some roadtrain stuff

Regards
Ant

G’day Ant,
I am afraid that the only roadtrain photo’s that I have got are the one’s which I took four years ago while we were doing a four month trip around Oz in the motorhome. I hope that you like them.
B.T.W. it’s funny the way things turn out, I meant to thank you month’s ago for bringing this Stralis story to my attention but I never got round to it, sorry.
I didn’t want to put these pictures on your brilliant Moorlocks thread as your amazing photo’s put these to shame.
Oh,and if The Flying Foden calls in for that brew that was on offer, can you treat Jeff to a bacon buttie from me.
Regards Steve.

The first two were taken near Mount Isa in outback Queensland, a funny old place really. It’s a big mining area, it’s more like Texas where there are lots of cattle, country and western rules and every year they hold the biggest rodeo in the southern hemisphere. A mate of mine went up there to see the rodeo one year and said that when he arrived he couldn’t understand why groups of people were pulling wheelie bins around. He found out later that they were using them as ice boxes to keep the beer cold. :sunglasses:

The next two were taken at Camooeal which is the last roadhouse in Queensland before the Queensland/ Northern Territory border.

These two were taken at the Kununurra roadhouse in Western Australia.
I bet it’s changed a bit since SPARDO was driving this road over forty years ago. There was only a short stretch of dirt road left when we were up there so it might be Tarmac all the way by now. I say changed a bit as there is not much too change it’s still very remote up in the Top End, but I am sure that David will have noticd that you dont have to hand pump the diesel out of the drums now.

and that as they say is the end.

Mushrooman,

Thanks for posting them, always fancied driving a road train in the outback, but havin spoken to a few guys who have done it, I don’t know if I could cope with the boardom !!!

Photos are great, I’ll pass on your regards to Jeff if he pops in - are you an ex Moorlock man yourself ■■

No I never worked for Moorlock but Alan Morrey who I used to work with knew a lot of them. As Alan lived in Crewe he knew a lot of the Stoke drivers from Moorlock, Comart, Carmans and Berrisfords. We would often have a drink with them at Carissio in Italy and all the ones that Alan introduced me to were all cracking lads.

Have to start saving again after reading this post :frowning:
