Great news

With Hmrc agreeing to the tax free meal allowance continuing subject to a few food recipts we can now have the meal allowance as a larger proportion of our wages , less tax means more ££££ in you pocket

When I read the title of the thread I thought it was about you managing to get home on Friday night

Yes I got home but the less said about that match the better

So what they are saying (in my eyes) is.

We have to keep receipts, but we will let you know if you are going to be in the 10% of the workforce that we will check.

So until you are told that you are in the bracket for ‘random checks’ , have some money in order to top up our ridiculously low wages so that you think you are onto a good thing.

When in reality you are on the same excuse for an hourly rate as you were before !! :open_mouth:

But at least you have a nice shiny truck with a girl’s name on the front and you get to to unpaid PR in your breaks and rest periods.

Cheers Easy.

Not quite sure how Stobart’s have managed to pull this particular fast one?

£15 per day for day drivers on food & drink? This company continues to amaze me at how it manages to rob the taxpayer.

Why don’t we all try and defraud the taxman? That way we can close all the hospitals and schools and unlock all the cells :unamused:

Lucky you  This is also the main reason why limpers go self employed. It’s ■■■■■■■■ all to do with ’ flexibility ’ or other nonsense they come out with, it’s so that they can blag as many receipts as legally allowable through their books in order to pay as little tax as possible.

To be fair it’s easy enough to spend £10 a day on food and drink. A burger meal and a drink can cost £8, before even talking about snacks and a bottle of water, etc.

If you want to economise by making sandwiches, then all you’re really doing is substituting personal labour at home for money earned at work.

Whether food expenses should or shouldn’t be taxed normally is an argument, but if you hold that they shouldn’t, then £15 is probably as good a level to set the bar as any.

Really what should happen is simply that the personal allowance is increased, and food paid for from ordinary wages.

The real purpose of these rules is so bosses can eat at fancy London restaurants 50% cheaper than if they had to pay from their own wages, and the concessions they make to the little people are to make everyone worry about the £3 a day they’d lose if the rules were changed, so that the captains of industry can avoid a thousand pound a day tax on their food and wine at “business meetings”.
