I know someone who did that (put it in the back of their car).
After driving away, it appeared that the pheasant wasn’t actually dead, and started flying around in the car!
If you have any change after buying a windscreen you could donate to the R.S.P.B.in memoryof that poor bird.
why wait for recovery,i had the same problem but mine was a brick trapped between a tippers wheels in front of me on the A1,came flying up and hit the windscreen like an explosion,i reported it after exchanging details and carried on,windscreen was totally gone but still got back to exel logistics heathrow,the funny thing is I followed it with my eyes as it came flying up and thought what the bloody hells that,next thing was BANG,crapped the bloody life out of me,tipper driver tried denying it but I told him it was trapped in his rear wheels,he obviously forgot to check when leaving a site
Why couldn’t you have leaned to the left a bit and just carried on ? Bloody youngsters. 
That was one good thing about the old toughened screens, when they were hit they just shattered and you could sweep the bits up and carry on. My Sed Ak one landed in my lap one day, why I don’t know, it frightened the life out of me and cut my wrists as well but I did the rest of the trip and got back to the yard where they fitted a new one. Next day, first load, BANG it went again!! 
Funnily enough it took chunks out of the steering wheel rim as well, but after a few days my hands had worn it smooth again!
