According to Ineos it’s vital that the workers there accept some reduction in their T’s and C’s in order for the facility to be viable. Ineos claim to be losing £120m a year and have been for a number of years, so they say. That represents an annual loss of more than £87,000 for every employee at the plant. Is every member of staff there earning in excess of £100,000 p.a. then? So every member of staff will need to accept a cut of £87,000 p.a. for the company to break even? Why would a commercial enterprise accept such massive losses year after year?
It would be easy to look at their submitted accounts.
I doubt they would lie over something that could be checked so easily.
There are many operational costs over and above the staff wages.
I can never understand why a group of workers would be so daft as to vote for something that will result in them getting nothing, unless they all have other jobs already lined up.
Hiya i know plenty of workes in a refinery who ern £600 for a 10 hour saturday/sunday and never lift a finger
just watch a mass of computer sceens for hour after hour just waiting for a green light to turn red then press
a button. 4 days on 4 days off. you need to be in the right place at the right time.no steering wheel required.

Or are Ineos LYING■■?
Hi DMD,
I doubt that it’s the way that you’ve mentioned.
The shortfall is probably being recouped from cuts to all operational expenses, not just the wage bill.
As you’ve pointed out, cutting the wage bill alone wouldn’t cover the shortfall.
There might be some element of brinkmanship involved, but who knows which side will blink first?
I’ve no idea of the truthfulness of what Ineos are saying though.
Have a pal that works for ineos
He earns well in excess of £40k a year pluss bonuses and o/t 4 on 4off for 4 cycles then 10 days off plus paid holidays!
When I told him To stop being such a trade unionist he replied with, we all have mortgages and bills to pay why should we not get a wage rise and bonuses!
They were asked to take a pay freeze until 2016 with no bonuses until that time and a reduced employer contribution to their pension apparently
In return ineos would invest in the plant and safe guard their jobs
And the union advised their members to say no!
Bare in mind that of 1300 workers only around 800 of them work for ineos the rest are contractors who will also loose their jobs
I say blind greed on both sides
Sympathy goes out the window as the majority of working brits are on a pittance
It’s not the first time that plant’s been under threat, Ineos bought it from BP a few years back for buttons as it was losing money then, Ineos promised the world to the workers when they took over…They’ve simply not been able to make it work, no big surprises there!
You’ll hear the name Pat Rafferty (union bod) in some news reports, he’s a self obsessed clown! Pat drove tankers for P&O when I worked at BP, & was their union rep, any small incident involving the workers had Pat shouting about going ‘out the gate’
The man’s more interested in not losing face, than those workers welfare!

.
From how I heard it on “wake up to money” (5live) Ineos is a private company, and doesnt have to submit accounts for public scrutiny, PWC are their tax accountants.
Unite wanted to have their own accountants go in and check the figures, but Ineos have refused.
Its all very sad, another nail in the coffin off british industry
If I worked there, I would accept the conditions the company are offering, but, and theres always a but,
I would expect the management to take a pay cut/freeze as well.
In real life here what happens if Grangemouth closes? Does all the petrol and diesel for forecourts come up the M74? How much will that add to the price joe blogs pays on the street.
Aside from Asda doc there is naff all in the way of employment in Grangemouth/Falkirk never mind for 800-1300 people!

With a bit of luck they will be indipendant next year and the SNP can deal with they 800-1300 extra on the dole.
Feel for the emloyees though. You get used to what you earn, I can’t imagine losing £50-£100pw out of my pocket!

Been there done that hope to never do it again, and I’ll never agree to a pay cut again, I’d rather take my cards and go eisewhere. once bitten twice shy
These workers are just greedy, well know lets see how they survive on unemployment benefit.
They were earning up to £40,000 p.a. with all the benefits some of us could only dream of,health care, final salary pension.
The company just wanted a pay freeze until 2015 but the greed selfish workers thought they could bully them into giving in,well I bet they would snap the company hands off now just to have a job now!
Everyone’s struggling at the moment, some workers have not had a pay increase for 5 yrs.

Grangemouth workers didn’t agree to the pay cut and look where its got them. They were given assurances of the future of the plant and their jobs if they agreed. I thought it would have been better to agree than to loose your job over it, especially in today’s economic climate. But that’s the unions for you.
Have to say I don’t think some people realise how good they have it! Could see this was going to happen when it first cropped up . I wonder how many of the workers are pleased they listened to the union now? They obviously don’t care about future generations as they have basically condemned them to a life of unemployment due to their greed.

A lot of fuel also arrives in Clydebank on a boat from abroad somewhere. Weather or not its capable of keeping the whole of Scotland’s petrol stations supplied is another thing though.
