Govt subsidies for foreign drivers?

I’ve just read on another forum that companies are employing foreign (mainly Polish) drivers for their truck fleets because they get a subsidy from the UK government of £160 per week for each driver they take on.

Does anyone know if there is any truth in this? It would be a disgrace if this practise is preventing UK drivers getting work in their own country due to the incompetence of the government and greed of the companies themselves?

I think this thread may be right up your street.
