Theres enough accidents on the roads atm doing the speeds we do, , every time theres a nasty accident it gets posted he was going to quick and couldn’t stop so they want to make trucks faster?
Has it reduced deaths or caused more when people try and over take in frustration , I drive to the road conditions and have never had an accident i don’t need the government to tell me how to drive safely .
Yea good idea, let’s vote to work longer hours too.
This won’t benefit drivers because most of us are paid by the hour and we would get more pressure to drive faster than the conditions allow due to tighter scheduling of collections/drops.
We would get a higher workload, more pressure, risk and less pay!
Yes it makes logical sense for us to sign it…
Maintain my belief the NSL should be left as it is. A blanket rise to 50 is not appropriate, it’d just be an invitation for the many numpties in trucks to ride the limiter everywhere & dodgy gaffers to pile more pressure on their drivers.
Roads should be assessed and a ‘HGV limits don’t apply’ road sign applied to suitable stretches. But that’d be an awful lot of expense when most drivers don’t bother with the speed limit anyway, relieving the issue. The only way to make anything happen is for all HGV drivers to rigidly stick to 40 and thus cause chaos - and that ain’t happening.

Agreed.
If trucks were allowed to travel at 50mph or above on A roads your always going to get the car drivers who feel they need to overtake, just means the resulting accident is of a higher speed then if they overtake at 40mph.
40 mph is too slow. It really is that simple.

Make a petition to ban overtaking?

That’s their problem then aslong as you’re not involved.

you wouldn’t need a petition
just 2 white un-broken lines painted all the way down the road.

Careful mate, you’re talking too much sense for many on here.
The crack it on brigade who daily sit on the limiter attempting to meet a tight as arse holes schedule,(… because their bosses know that they ARE dumb enough to do so even though they risk their licences) rather than have the balls to sit at the legal limit, arrive late thus demonstrating that the set schedules are impossible will be up in arms.
Yeh lets raise the limit as I am sure that it won’t be seen as an opportunity to squeeze even more out of us in a weeks work ,
Some of the hard of thinking should be careful what they wish for

the same one as 70 mph for cars on a motorway!
It’ll make no difference to cars trying to overtake anyway. If we were limited to 100 mph, you’d still have car drivers wanting to go at 110 mph.
It doesn’t need changing, it needs drivers to be properly educated. I had an incident on the A69 last week, where a Keedwell driver couldn’t get past me. Que 10 miles of him getting angrier and angrier, flashing his lights until we get to the little bit of dual carriageway before the M6. He managed to to get 3/4 of the way past me before chucking his trailer in to my lane and trying to run me off the road.
This was a Friday evening so maybe he was rushing to get home, I don’t know. Either way, somebody could of got hurt. Instead of just sitting back and chilling out a bit, he sat there raging for the final 10 miles of the A69. Absolutely pathetic.

Based on the fact it holds everybody up, (look in your mirrors) it encourages motorists to take risks and is complete overkill in terms of ‘‘safety’’.
A9 is a example. They are trialing 50mph for the reasons above, not for a laugh

Look at it the other way. Why did he act in such a way? Because he was frustrated at sitting at 40. Yes he wanted to go faster which was naughty but if you were able to do 50mph then perhaps he wouldn’t have been reacting like this.
BTW, lots of laybys on that road, just saying…

I would have backed off and let him past [with lots of space to pull back in]…just sayin.
