Don’t knock it, a bit of experience in a 7.5t will set you up well for the bigger vehicles.
So do you now know what you’ll be doing on Monday ?
I start at 7.30 and I have 5 drops local (maybe about 40 mile radius from depo) and then once I finished those I phone transport manager and arrange some collections
Hopefully it’s gonna go sweet as a nut
Don’t rush !
The more you rush- the more they will give you !
I won’t I think the biggest problem ill have is finding the places to deliver to, alot of places near my area are like behind walls and stuff with hardly any signs
Should get used to it tho
yeah you will get used to it fairly quick, im doing it 8 weeks now and yesterday I done 27 drops and 2 collections and back in the yard at half past three, and that was with an hour and ten mins break aswell
I hope ill get that good lol, really hope I find the places easy enough
5 drops seems like they’re breaking you in very gently or you misheard them and you have 5 drops on your 1st trip (of 3)
Don’t be disheartened if you don’t get it all done and from an office point of view - keep in contact with them if anything holds you up. Nothing worse than calling a driver to find he’s been sat at a drop for 1 hour when it could have been prevented with a phone call.
Defo just 5 drops and then collections once the deliveries have been done.
Once I finished delivering I gotta ring the office and ask for the collection
5 Drops local will be a very gentle ease in.
If you start at 07:30 and do one about an hour (which would be very rare, you’ll easily be knocking out more than that) you’d still have all your drops done by lunchtime and all afternoon for collections.
What type of work is it? I suppose it could all be slow handball perhaps, that might take a bit longer.
Whatever it is mate, stick at it regardless and you’ll learn a huge amount. Probably make a few mistakes too but everyone has to learn their own way.
Hopefully you’ll enjoy it and learn to appreciate it for what it is.
Alex
It’s all palletised things so all require forklifts
I think a few of the deliveries are on a regular basis to so I ahold get to know them after a week or so

you will once you get used to it but don’t be afraid to ring someone if your not sure where your going even if you have to ring them two or three times, its alot easier than driving around in circles looking for a place.
Good luck with it fella.
And pics of your steed are compulsory on this site from new boys.
Ken.
Don’t do your drops too quickly, or else they’ll pile more on!
Good luck and enjoy. Take your time on a first day, sounds like you’ve a reasonable workload. You’re new boss will be much more impressed with accuracy than speed, which comes with time.
Yeh ill upload a pic once I start Monday.
Ill just be taking my time and hoping for the best
If you happen to see me out and about don’t forget to grab a pallet and deliver it for me lol
It may sound basic but double check the pallet label is for the place you’re delivering to and how many pallets.
Seen many red faces when you have to go back and say you’ve delivered the wrong pallet or you move one to find a second pallet that should have been delivered two drops ago.
Haha yeh my boss told me that this morning :p, I know it sounds stupid but do you have to strap down the pallets or anything ■■ A few wagons come to the place I used to work for and never had anything securing them
Just use your common sense regarding strap use etc mate. Light and shrunkwrapped stuff should be ok heavier or unstable then def strap/secure.
Good luck mate. Take your time and get it right but above all enjoy yourself and don’t be pushed. I started on 7:5 in 1980. Since then I’ve been all over europe and nth africa and now I just trundle round the UK but it’s mostly been fun and I personally still enjoy it.
One piece of advice from one newbie to another, think about what you’re doing and triple check all of the time. Sounds daft but once you start to rush and get a little flustered (trust me you will) it can be very easy to overlook the simplest of things, leading to a big ■■■■ up. Just take your time, you’re new, there are no target/delivery times to achieve (or whatever you want to call it), just get the deliveries there in one piece and the truck back to the depot with no damage.
Best of luck on Monday
