Yeah, you keep going. Keep your nose clean and keep those drivers moving and before you know it with RB you will be on £7.50 per hour.
By all accounts DAF95XF I’ve been told for someone whose just started I’m coping well with the job and if the past 2 shifts are anything to go by I’ve nothing to worry about helps when you enjoy it though!
I’ll look into that discoman with the drivers hours course, as they was kind enough to let me go on it next week. Its still trying to sink in if I’m honest after all this time waiting and ive got my start! As for keeping my nose clean thats something i intend on doing. It’s just cool to be given a chance many people my age could only wish for trying to gain a start
Exhaulier im currently on average £7.80 an hour in the office lol so I’d hope for a wage cut of sorts the hours would be there! Its just getting used to certain things of sorts but certainly interesting to learn
Cheers
Jonny
discoman:
Please, make sure if you can, it is an approved course so it could be 7+ to your DCPC
As far as I’m aware, unless you have grandfather rights, you cannot do DCPC periodic training until you’ve done the initial DCPC tests, so it doesn’t matter whether the course is approved or not

This is nothing against you Jonny but why have a big company given a job like that to somebody with no experience in transport
I often wondered how the young girl who started out as a clerk got so high up the ladder with a total lack of knowledge of anything truck related,I guess blonde hair,■■■■■■■■ goes a long way in this industry

That’s correct tachograph, because the system should not allow the upload of periodic DCPC hours to a person’s account unless they’re either ‘grandfathered’ or they have completed their initial DCPC.
Thought I’d post a little update as it’s been a while since I’ve been on here. To say i was thrown in at the deep end was an understatement! A lot harder than i was expecting but VERY VERY enjoyable!!!
To say I’ve impressed them i think is a little understatement and have even been in charge of a group of drivers running out of one of the less busy places we load out of. With help ofcourse but for advice and guidance only. And well i got a very well done considering my training has been at the deepend with a few days of the basics and pick it up as i go along!
And as for whether they’re keeping me on (itll be a month in over a week!) my uniform has been ordered and have been told for a greenhorn I’ve done well. Such an enjoyable experience, and ironically haven’t done a nights work yet!
So to the young lads wanting a break in transport. They are there! Just have to claw fight and prove you want it enough to get it.
Best get back to it, breaks up in 5
Cheers
Jonny

Didn’t know that, my DCPC expires soon for my PCV and LGV soon, I left UK, over here in Australia, you don’t even do a medical for Class 1 but yes for the MC double trailer.
I didnt even do a test to get my licence over here either
Great stuff Johnny, i’m glad you’re enjoying it.
RB are a stable, well run firm who will provide you with opportunities for career advancement if you put the graft in. I know you love the wagons but if you want my advice, when the offer of promotion comes within the office, take it! You’re already on the same if not better money than an arctic driver anyway. You can always get your licence another route & wet your whistle, the odd day here & there or just provide emergency cover to RB when a driver let’s them down. Variety is the spice as they say.
Planning isn’t rocket science as long as you’re on the ball, think ahead & listen to what the drivers are saying is going on at the pointy end.
I’ll be honest the drivers earn quite a lot more than what I’m on, one of the guys in the office went on the road purely for this reason. He still does a day here and there to help in the office but won’t come back full time. But he said he wouldn’t change where he worked, and that he loved working there so I suppose what suits one doesn’t suit another but I’ve found there are people who don’t last long but those I see every day. Most of the drivers I’ve spoke to have been more than helpful and understand I’m the new guy still learning but I’d like to think they think I’m getting better. I’ve found that RB are willing to give you a chance, if you’re willing to work for it and it was a shock to the system in some respects because of trying to get the head around the system we work on, but I’ve picked it up quite well even so I managed to help someone in the office using it so I’d like to think I was grasping the job well.
I must say though I don’t plan jobs, all my job is to do is tell the drivers what they have planned for them, in a sense we’re the second lot of planners kind of hard to explain but as I said in my interview it’s my foot in the door and it is firmly placed awaiting for it to get opened a little bit more. I still wake up and think if I’m dreaming because it’s been so long to actually want a start to actually getting it, and although it is quite hard work and mentally challenging most of the time, I can’t say it feels like work I’m used to going home on a night knackered and aching from a day in the warehouse not still refreshed being in the office
As for the driving though, I’ll get my turn and I’ll sort that out as time goes on. Which I hope will be sooner rather than later if I’m completely honest, but it’s nice knowing I’ve got my start there when I become available to drive the lorries. But that all comes in time, right now I’m just enjoying the journey on getting there Also with me missing payday last month I get a double wage in 2 weeks
So a celebratory drink will be on call next month!
So anyone up pontefract on the 26th next month and see a group of folk having a drink and a laugh it shall be me to come say hello
Cheers
Jonny
