So passed my Hgv class 2 at the start of June and have been lucky enough to get a start driving Hgv 2 for a furniture /house removal company to be honest it is not the best job in the world but it is getting me experience driving. But have now got an interview driving a 3 car transporter ? How difficult is it driving one of these ? Baring in mind I have been driving e reg mans with no power steering lol.
Hi.
Give the furniture job a go for few months, it’ll give you excellent experience that I believe you’ll only otherwise gain driving a bin lorry.
I drove a 17tonne removal truck for 5 years once I did my class 2, and some of the driveways, estates etc you had to get in/out of make for great practise and experience.

Driving a 3 or 5 car transporter is not that difficult, but many don’t like it, it can be a cold wet job or an absolutely sweltering job, do you have any fears of heights and driving onto a road that you cannot see. Can you reverse up a ramp at speed knowing that you can get it wrong and fall onto the road from 10 feet high. I enjoyed it, but there were many drivers couldn’t hack it.

When i got my HGV my first job was recovery, brilliant job loved it,would still be doing it if i could have worked less than 80 hours a week. BUT i would not take a job on a 3 car transporter for a pension. If it is 3 on the bed/beds,they will be a night mare to load. Imagine driving up at 45 degrees to place a car on the roof of a truck-now imagine doing it in the dark in the ■■■■■■■ rain in a car you have never driven before that is worth 30 to 40 grand----no pressure!!
Sorry if this puts you off,but the experience of the no power steering MAN would be more beneficial in general haulage. But if you want to work in car transporting I hear it’s quite well paid.
