Got my first LGV job

Hey guys

passed my cat C in september and have been repeatedly banging my head on a virtual brick wall ever since,
not through lack of door to door visits and applications to various transport companies, 78 in total !! :frowning: :frowning:

Had a phonecall from a removals company who sounded very keen until i told them i was 23 “oh sorry our insurance wont cover you, call us back when you’re 25” :unamused: , tried to put it in a positive note ( well they atleast phoned me?)

Then just as i started to actually give up hope, got a phonecall from a company 2 mins down the road from me, offered me to come in for a chat, told that it was relief work ( well we all have to start somewhere ) said he’d give me a bell the next week, heard nothing ( the week coming upto christmas ) so i bit the bullet and phoned him just to check the week after " yeah come down tomorrow for an assesment drive and a tacho test" went did the drive and said test, told me he’d ring me this morning and heard nowt, so phoned just before going to watch the football, " yep we have a job waiting for you when can you start" .

i’m so chuffed about it because i really was starting to get quite miserable with the job i’m in, and the lack of feedback from companies when you apply. :imp: :imp:

But just for all the other newbies, dont give up you will get there!!!

Congratulations. Good luck and never be afraid to ask questions on here. Just ignore the miserable answers.

Well done mate, i know how hard it is to break into your first job, good news once one company gives you a try in opens up doors to all the others , as someone on here said before the easy part is passing your test.

well done mate, bet your very happy now your sorted.

i am havin the same trouble you were, i passed my C+E in 1st week of december 10, and am sick to death of hearing sorry mate, we need someone with 2 years experience :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

It is a bloody nightmare isn’t it, but don’t get downhearted by the knock backs, I had the same problem when I passed my C(nov08) and C&E(march09) no one wanted to employ a 22 year old and send them out in a freighted truck!! Keep plugging away and knocking on doors, and widen your searching perimeters, sometimes it helps to think outside the box a bit

Well done on the job

But it not only you younger 1s that get knocked back I went round every company with in a 50 mile ( approx. ) radius of my house knocking on the doors standing in front of them handing CV out filling in application forms even signed up with 9 agency just as thing were going right well now on the sick until further notice

But dont worry to much just keep going with it

well done.youre on youre way now.have a couple of years at it then do class 1 :bulb:

If you’re planning to do class 1 i’d just get it done now, wouldn’t wait 2 years because you can run into exactly the same problem again. It’ll be a lot easier if you’ve had your class 1 for 2 years even if you’ve not used it, plus it’ll be there in place so you can keep your eye out and apply for class 1 jobs as and when they appear while still having the class 2 job.

thats another way of looking at it i supose, but there are a lot of different aspects to lorry driving, you might not find it quite as you were imagining, just be sure its what you want before you invest any more cash

Cheers for the kind words guys,

just so relieved seeing as the job market is still on its nose,

start on the 31st delivering hotel linen in a daf lf 18 tonner, cant wait

Congrats on getting the job , should keep you fit too rolling those cages around
