Had loads of fun- been almost everywhere in that time, stayed at some of the most luxurious hotels & locations, worked alongside some very famous faces now i have gone & give it all up decided to get a proper job
So here i am now look!

culina1.JPG
Been here a month now & enjoying it although it is totaly different to what i am used to!
Let’s just hope i can stick it! The ol woman will go mad if i don’t :unamused:

The old pics look great, I have all the time in the world to listen to the tall tales of drivers who have really been there and done that… I like seeing the pictures people have taken along their travels.

I’m only 23 so have millions of miles to cover whilst still learning, can I ask why you gave it up to work for culina?

That’s what I was thinking?

good luck mate, hope you enjoy :grimacing:
if this doesn’t keep the mrs happy, nothing will.
i have the same situation myself.

God where do i start boys there are so many reasons.
Missed the kids growing up-- Jobs away from home for over 3 months-- As in all work involving entertainment there are times when the industry closes down so worrying when the next lot of pay will arrive. The reason i left the job was basically i was offered a full time position & they are only 15 minutes from where i live, I was only looking for a bit of holiday relief as our lot were quiet for a month so sent my CV to an agency who sent it to Culina! they rang me so i thought sod it let’s give it a go.
Anyway i have always loved the thought of being stuck at RDC’s

Good luck in your new move Jacko…And welcome to the real world!

Hope the new job and family life works out for you.
Will it be itchy feet for the long haul again in a couple of months…■■?
Interesting thread so keep us informed.
Excellent photos also, thanks for posting.

Looks like an amazing work history mate. I’m envious. Although I must admit, I would miss my family like crazy, I’m sure they would miss me too, I think

^^ This

I’d love to do a bit of touring, the UK has lost most of its appeal for me now, but 3mths away from the missus has gotta be hard…

No kids, so that’s not an issue, but still the woman you CHOOSE to be with being so far away for so long…

Well done mate and good luck for the future.

Good luck Jacko, I also work for Culina and they aint bad just keep your head down and they won’t bother you. I’m out of Bristol what about you Haverhill ■■

Hope it works out for you Jacko, I know where you are coming from because I gave up touring to do a more “normal” job some years ago.

I’ll be honest, in terms of job satisfaction it doesn’t come anywhere near. But it has allowed me to spend far more time with my children, which took priority. Now that they are nearly grown, I may go back touring again but the point is that at different times of life, different jobs suit.

All the best, buddy!

Yeah outa Haverhill bald bloke, already been to Bristol depot a few times, as for getting “itchy feet” Andysmg spoke to the lads on Fieldings the other day ,all sat down in Cannes hoteled until the 25th in the sunshine, did make me think but i know i have made the right move! This was a life change decision not money motivated although obviously that does come into it!!
Don’t suppose i will be able to do any more diaries in the future now. Supermarket RDC not the same as a month n Tenerife or Malta is it!

You could still do a diary about rdc deliveries, you could describe the rubbish you hear and take some photos of drivers sat around spouting bollox, actually you’d better not.

At least sitting at local RDC’s in & around the uk i can keep me hand in with my knowledge of eastern european languages!!

RDC’s this needs to be moved to the mmtm thread!

you will no doubt get some big shot think your talking utter [zb] about the driving career you had !

Good luck Jacko, I gave up international work back in 98 for similar reasons, I hadn’t seen my girls grow up and wife had a son in 97 so decideded enough was enough, I was doing the Balkans at the time with all the troubles out there so wifey decided for me really. Some 14 years later and I still get the itchy feet to get back on the continent and now my lad is nearly 15 I am looking at getting back over there, just trying to find a job running over the water is a damm sight harder now than it was in the 80’s/90’s.
As for missing it while sat at the RDC’s don’t worry mate…you will get to meet all the guys that have been to China, missed the Herald of Free Enterprise, done the M/E and been in the Blanc when the fire happended, thing is you will meet them everyday now instead of just on the ferry/train

i was actually the one who put the fire out with my load of top secret sas fire retardant. but it did make me late for the herald .

Haha i can just see you sitting there with some guy giving a load of b/s about how ive done this that and the other then you can just get the pic out of you floating down the canal in venice and just sit with a smug look on your face.

Shame youve given up touring etc but totally understandable why. Good luck either way Jacko

A brave choice to give it all up…Jacko. Best of luck to you mate in your new life.

I can’t tell ya over the years how many of the " oh i done rock n roll" crowd i have met, worked out that Shirleys had about 375 trucks on production on Madonna some years ago the funny thing was none of them could remember the name of the lead driver on it! They all managed to “back off” the Herald though!
