On the side or back of the container it will have the height 8’ 6’’ for a standard or 9’ 6’’ for a high cube, all you then have to do is measure from the ground (road) to the bottom of the container and add the two together and you have your running height. To be really fussy you measure it when it’s loaded and when it’s empty.
Thanks thats great I’ll do that thanks again Thomas

Tape measure in your kit is essential mate. No ifs, no buts, no coconuts.
Thanks i have been buying so many things thinking I’ll need them and one important bit of kit I forget it.
I’m not normally this stupid.
I’ll get one as quick as humanly possible.
Thanks again and sorry if I’m coming across silly
Regards Thomas
Get yourself a bamboo stick 6ft mark off every foot and one end mark it in inches.
Stand on cat walk holding stick against the container, pencil line on container then follow to the floor measurement done . Just remember loaded is lower than mt

With all these trolls around I didn’t want to be perceived as one.
Thanks again Thomas

Thankyou that’s a really good idea.
I did look at height sticks but they are like £100 inc post on ebay or very close to at least.
I came into this profession to save money not spend it all
Thanks again Thomas
blue estate:
Take the A360 Devizes road out up to A303 at stonehenge or just go via Bullington cross
Thankyou I’ll get my map book out and look through all possible routes.
Thanks again i really appreciate it
My 18t runs at 14ft so I never go out through wilton
P’s Don’t go out of salisbury via the A338 or A30 to east with a box on as there’s 13ft bridge on that road

Hi all my new job is going great but I am suffering bridge anxiety.
I got someone in a services to get there height stick out the other day and with a 20 foot container the height was 13 foot 6.
I am having a 40 foot container on tomorrow and have a 14 foot bridge to go under.
Does anybody know if the docks at Southampton have a measure stick?
Really worried thanks in advance Thomas
Not sure about the road you’re referring to mate, but generally speaking there is nearly always a road around them, check your bridge map or ask some of the experienced lads.
I know you are new, and you are right to be careful, but keep things in perspective and don’t get so stressed ffs.
Anxiety and Worried are the words you used… Just try and take it in your stride and chill a bit, it makes for an easier life.
Not being clever mate, just trying to point stuff out.

Hopefully I will find someone coming out of the game selling one cheapish.
Thanks Thomas

If nobody suggests any, maybe ask one of the transporter lads if they know a supplier, they are always in Southampton and always carry one.

Good advice for all newbies there, stressing out makes the job much harder than it needs to be.
Sit back and relax, just not so much you forget to engage your brain.

thatst he way we go , never take the A36 even at 13’6 height , just not worth the agro, head through sailsbury , & take the 360 out to the A303, wiltons a crap road , push come to if yer still in doubt, head back out the M27 > M3 > A34 > A303 , longer way but not much time difference as yer full chat all the way
why dont you just buy a £1 tape measure from the poundshop,or would that be too terrible to contemplate?..surely a contender for the …whats the average iq thread…
I followed what I assumed was a high container through that bridge on the A36 the other week.
I was surprised he was taking that route, so I hung back as he went under, just in case
He cleared it with what looked like a fraction to spare, rather him than me!

I I’ve been under that bridge plenty of times, with the sign lit up “overheight vehicle. Turn around” . There’s plenty of room in the middle of the arch. …
