Was using Google maps other day it said fog ahead.
And sure enough there was.
It tells me there’s a disabled veichel ahead. Tells me there’s a speed camera ahead .
How does it even know there’s fog ahead?
Really impressed how it knows all.these things. Yet on the other hand it worries me how it knows all this what else it knows about us.
And also in time be turning the younger generation into zombies have to follow Google maps do what it says.
I have sat nav but can still read those funny flat metal things with paint on that are by the side or over a road , [emoji6]
I think their called road signs

And if your missus goes on your google maps timeline she can see when and were you have been, as i found out
Isn’t your location picked up from your mobile phone? In phone settings location can be turned off. But then Maps navigation won’t work so you will need a SatNav instead.
You can turn location off and it won’t track you. But as you say satnav won’t work either. You’re better off disabling location history in Google settings. It won’t show your past movement but you can still use satnav. Clear the Google maps data while you’re there.
Location history is bloody useful. If you visit a place you can’t remember the name of, or you can’t remember what hours you worked one day etc it’s all on there, it’ll tell you that you arrived at a yard at 5.50am and left at 6.10pm etc. Helped me out loads of times.

Google maps use waze navigation, waze members report traffic information etc and google uses it.
Google bought waze awhile ago just for that reason.
Google maps now has a system similar to Waze for reporting obstacles, mobile cameras, etc. While navigating there’s now a button which is a ‘+’ in what looks like a speech mark in the bottom right of the screen.
I bought this dashcam, voice operated, but in order to use the voice facility, you have to install a program on your phone, alexa, but in doing that, you have to agree to tell it your location, now the ■■■■■■■ thing knows where I am all the time!

It really is. I’ve abandoned keeping a diary since I started using location history since it shows more than I was writing down anyway.

Actually it is a little bit more sophisticated. It’s your android phone what gives Google information about traffic, if there is certain amount of phones sitting or slowly moving on M6 that’s how they get it, Have you ever noticed, how accurate it actually is ? The moment you will start moving again it’ll go green instantly on Google maps.
I read an article that highways/govenment are working in partnership with waze.
And are going to analysis use all the data they collect and use it to resynch some traffic light junctions and other congested areas to help with traffic flow
