Good old British military driving

Yes, he said something about wreckers being a priority, this was MAN Swindon BTW.
I suppose until they were delivered they only had the ancient Eagle engined Foden crap. Are the Foden DROPS with the chunkier tyres still in service as I haven’t spotted any for a year or two?

Fitter in talking ■■■■■ shocker.

I think they might be the odd 1 or 2 , they were a better truck than the leyland drops IMO never got “bogged in” in 1 of those ! When we were bored stood around the vehicle park we used to start them with paper clips and take them for a spin lol or do burnouts in them

No excuse I know, but Ive seen a lot worse than that by both civvies and military. The fact they are military should not really be an issue, unless your saying that military drivers are crap!

They are still about, we had a fleet of 12 in Camp Bastion Transport Troop whilst in afghan in 2010, these were the sorriest looking vehicles ever, they were held together mainly by duct tape and cannibalistic repairs from the vehicle graveyard in Bastion. However saying that, between the Leyland DAF and the Foden Drops, the Fodens won every time, they would go anywhere in that country with hardly any probs, unlike the Leyland baby DROPS, which would bog in left right and center

Then they brought in the MAN EPLS crap, horrible vehicles, only good thing was the air con

So the conclusion is that a Foden held together with duct tape and old bits salavaged from two others to make one good un still beats anything else for the price.Which anyone who’s ever driven on a landfill site or through a snow storm with a plough on the front could have told them. :smiling_imp:
