Good lorry related Drama/movies

Anybody remember an 8 part series called ‘Truckers’ from 1987? It was shown on the BBC. It featured a company called ‘Picards Freight Haul’. It was about a northern firm (shot by J7 M62, Widnes, portakabin still there) strugglimg for survival. It was quite good. Plenty of C series ERF’s and early Merc SK’s. I got all of them on DVD after I posted on a Britfilm forum.

Look here for the IMDB run down.

Anyone remember an old safety film about taking the HGV test. It starred Graham Stark, as a guy helping, in pigeon French, to reverse a left hand drive truck into a loading bay. When the driver finished he said, in a broad Scouse accent, “Cheers mate but i learnt how to reverse on my HGV course”, “Are there many of you French people living in Sheffield?”

Surprised no ones mentioned Movin’ On, It was a television series back in the 70’s about an old time trucker teamed up with a college educated younger driver who I think was supposed to have been born in England. They drove a green and silver K Wobbler if I remember rightly, and got into all sorts of scrapes (as you do) driving an obviously empty rig around. (It was supposed to be loaded but it was always bouncing about like a can on the back of the wedding car).
Not too bad though. Starred Claude Atkins and Frank Converse as Sonny Pruett and Will Chandler. The theme tune, also Movin’ On, sang by Merle Haggard is still one of my (trucker song) favourites with some good guitar riffs.
