Ice cold in Alex, well it was a small truck, an ambulance to be precise, but a Little Bedford truck all the same.
Aye. And wasn’t Sylvia Syms bonny back then eh?
One of my favourite British films that. A neighbour was doing his National Service in the desert and was roped in to pull the Ambulance up that hill by hand with a load of other soldiers.
Excellent movie, thanks for rmeinding me of it.
fox
Although it kind of falls apart a bit at the end. You see them drive through ‘Alex’ and pass a Series 1 land-rover as well as a few other post war cars.
Then they drink, beer which wasnt availiable during the war (Carlsberg i believe) it would only have been availiable to the germans as they ocupied the country that brewed it
The Simpsons episode where Homer becomes a truck driver after entering an eating contest against a driver. The truck driver dies and homer has to take over his run if I remember rightly.

harry: articfox I thought Hell Drivers was set north of the border…? There was that one with DeNiro playing a longhaired ,scruffy truckdriver who drove very fast to scare his old Nam buddy out of some kind of trauma…?
No mate, Hell Drivers was definitely set in the south ‘Hawlett’s’ was the name emblazoned on those old four wheelers. An excellent pun I thought.
I remember the ‘Brothers’ The Hammonds. They used a St.Helens firm I think ‘HTS’ was it Hilton Transport Services’ ■■ as the backdrop for all the boardroom shennanagin. Not always rivetting but it did produce a ‘Doctor Who’ I recall.
They should have had a bit more cab and a bit less boardroom. I’m sure that with a bit of thought an imaginative screenplay writer could come up with a few gripping storylines.
the lorries were infact known as parrot nosed Dodges made at Kew in s.w. london. and had Perkins engines, the cabs were known as the LAD cabs this stood for Leyland Albion Dodge, but also Ford used this cab in the 4D the differance being the grills. I was also told that the quarry scenes was filmed in Godstone road in Croydon and the cafe shots was at the Riverside cafe on the Colnbrook by pass on the old A4.
The cabs on the Dodges used in Helldrivers were Briggs cabs - they were used by Leyland on the bonnetted Comets, Thames on the Costcutters and of course the Kew Dodges.
LAD cabs were those used by Leyland, Albion and Dodge - hence the use of the initials.
neil46 Thankyou for that. I think that the caff is still there…Amazing …All your life you have it fixed somewhere in the wilds & all the time it was near Shepperton Studios…DOOooooooooH!!! ( Why did those poofs wear those sheepskin jackets??/ ■■■■■■ posers !!! )
neil46 I had a mate that worked for the same outfit as you in Houston. He was in Saudi on household waste collection. The Saudis took over the contract . Which meant my mate was redundant & the rubbish never got collected. He also became ( before the crash)one of those drivers that became supervisor & then instructor in Houston. He lost his house …ect. he was convinced that the firm was connected to organised crime…( mafia ) But they paid good…Just be a bit wary with these guys… (You dont have to make a reply to this...) Personally I think that you have made an awful career move. But I am older & have the benefit of hind sight...( YOU ARE NEVER GONNA GET RICH DRIVING A TRUCK ) Fact...So dont risk your life for a de-valued currency… ( They don`t give a tinkers toss about you… )… Although you have a massive armchair-based fan club .They just need the pics !!

theghostofcain: I’m almost sure it is Black Dog. It has something to do with driving while sleepy I think (there are obviously no driving regulations in this film, as he has a cargo of guns! ). I think he says whenever you drive while sleepy you will see a black dog run across the front of the truck just before you fall asleep. I can only remember some.

KarlM, I think the Meatloaf film was Black Top? He lives in his trailer & abducts young ladies!!
That must be another film Ghost.
Black Dog has the guy from Dirty Dancing as the driver. He has just got his licence back after loosing it because of killing a couple due to falling asleep at the wheel. As he woke up he thought he saw a black dog run across in front of him, swung the unit to miss the dog and drove into the couple stopped at the side of the road due to a breakdown, he hadn’t seen them because of concentrating on missing the dog which was only in his imagination anyway.
Meatloaf is the baddy who gives him the run, its supposed to be an easy run, however what is in the trailer isn’t what is on the manifest.
