My old man used to have a pair of transparent orange discs with suckers in the middle, stuck them on the headlights, supposed to help to see in the fog. The only reason they worked was because they stopped most of the light passing through especially when they were scuffed from kicking around in the cab for a while, so no dazzle! A paper bag over the lights would probably have been as good!

Lucozade wrappers did the same thing, ok on a short journey
How about that stuff you could paint on the headlights, turned the light yellow. Ok in the fog, absolutely useless in the dark.

What about when we used to tie a longish piece of thin cloth on the mirror arms and it kept them reasonably clean, Regards Larry.
It looks like some drivers actually paid for them.
Apologies for not showing full advert, but whenever I download a photo
from photobucket onto my I pad, this is what happens.

A guaranteed ten hour day with time and a quarter after eight hour, Monday to Friday.
Time and a half on Saturdays before midday, minimum five hours and time and three quarters after midday.
Double Bubble on Sunday minimum ten hours for Sunday running.
A phone call from the company to your home as regards a change of plan, book a quarter of an hours pay.
Washing wagons, loading and shunting on a Saturday morning, five hours at time and a half plus an extended breakfast break and then a trip to the local pub,… priceless .
Sounds very much like the conditions of BRS in the early 50 s --how times have changed !

I think that was the iodine paint you could buy from the AA so that you could paint your headlamps for driving in France. I used it several times and it lasted for several months afterwards. Robert

Can you remember the little V shaped deflector that were quite often seen on Morris Minors they were fitted on the front of the bonnet to deflect flies etc, Also the gadget that was fitted on the car roof with a bit sticking down the middle of the windscreen It acted like a periscope for drivers pulling caravans with front & rear windows, They never caught on did they ?, Regards Larry.
The periscopes are still in demand with classic car/caravan owners Larry, they make decent money.
Corner boards, when we had only flat beds and had to load and sheet we had corner boards to stop ropes cutting into the load, any sheeted vehicle these days never have them
I remember that there was great competition in our yard to see who could design/make the poshest and most effective corner boards. Then along came those one metre lengths of fibre with a crease up the middle- OK for protecting the load from ropes but pretty useless at helping to keep the load on.
Waving at work m8s,flashing people in,saying thanks for being flashed in ,chatting to other drivers at the same drop or in a cafe ,these things are all slowly becoming a thing of the past ,very sad

Very sad indeed Seth70, The only time I get to chat to some old drivers is at funerals, Like today I attended one to pay my respects to a fellow departed driver, & met up with several lads from the past, that I either worked with or just lads that I new throught the job as we all once new it, Long gone days sadley to say, Regards Larry.

The all tightening Dundee Cross seldom seen nowadays, mixed with a drop of -
Aberdeen Overdrive which is no use nowadays either, I made good use of both.
