The Highway Agency is no more, it has been transferred to a government owned company.
Highways England.
Doubt we will see much change. but interesting to see that they are more accountable for their actions.
“Two new bodies will hold us to account on your behalf. One to monitor the performance of our highways, run by the Office of Rail Regulation, and another to champion the needs of road users, called Transport Focus. With secure funding and more freedom to improve our network of motorways and A roads, Highways England will have what it takes to drive our country forward.”

They’ve got a long list of things to do if they want to champion the needs of road users!
I’m guessing it’s the same people in the same job in the same cars, just without highways agency written on.
I can see in some aspects why the HA do an important job, they usually get to an incident quicker than the police and can get debris out of the way to keep the road moving if possible.
But that statement in the post above sounds like they’re biting off more than they can chew with this new version of HA. Does this mean if there’s traffic due to say a fallen tree or a truck/van that’s left some of its load on the road and I’m late to a delivery which gets rejected then I could hold the new HA accountable as they’re now “accountable on your behalf”?
“Office of rail regulation”. Surely there’ll be a conflict of interests here?
