Good as its gonna get, lincs?

When you’ve passed your class 1, you get with whoever will take you on which may not be the best pay and conditions, but you do it to get that experience needed before jumping ship to a better company, what firm is it that you should aim for in the long run round these parts? Lincolnshire is one of the sh**iest paid areas in the country, and just over half the workforce is Eastern European, so it’s never gonna be the cream de la crem, but what firms are “as good as its gonna get”

You have to weigh things up. Earnings vs effort vs distance vs cost. Sometimes it’s better to be on a local job paying peanuts rather than traveling to earn better. In my neck of the woods, wages are very poor. So I’ve always traveled. 33 miles away I can tak home another 7k a year. Always been a no brainier, but I’ve heard today that a firm 200 yards from my front door has put the money up to within £50 a week of what I earn, so I might be off there soon.

I agree…

Lincs is really poor when it comes to money. There are few better paying jobs but, it depends on what you want to do. Tramping, locals, bulk tippers?

If you wanna do distance and be out for days on end, you might as well look further away. If you’re away all week, what does it matter where the company is based?

^^^ this exactly.

Every area has its crap payers and its better payers, at first you might have to take whatever is going, but what you can do is learn your trade skill yourself up and earn a reputation for being reliable and competent and someone who isn’t throwing sickies or hissy fits, then find a way into the better jobs without burning bridges if you can help it.
Never underestimate how a good reputation can open what would usually be classed as closed doors.

Lincs is a big county, what part?

Treasures I’ve heard are a decent firm in Grantham. Openfield people are nice, money not great though.

One of my colleagues comes over from the IOW every monday morning and goes back Friday evening as there’s not many transport jobs on the island apart from one firm
