Gold Plating

Nothing to do with shiny bits this, I’m referring to the “belt and braces” approach that some companies have to enforcing legislation a thousand miles above and beyond what actually needs to be done.

I’ll start you off with a beauty. As we all know tax discs are no longer required to be displayed on windscreens it’s all done via ANPR and a centralised computer system. So, “JUST TO BE SURE”, their words not mine, our firm has issued every vehicle with a copy of the DVLA printout showing that the VED has been paid, this to be kept in the “incident box” which every vehicle has, normally containing insurance certificate, disposable camera, pencil and notepad etc. You couldn’t invent it could you? :open_mouth:

Of course it goes without saying that “Thrush”, our so-called driver trainer, now has the onerous extra duty of ensuring that these are changed when the vehicle is re-taxed. Creation of imaginary jobs is not exclusive to politicians, it seems.

Ask them for a tread depth tool for the tyres, so you can daily write down the results and see what happens…I dare you.
After all bald tyres cost points , remove you company’s double green status and can cause accidents can be your reason for wanting to do it !

Hehehe.

Sounds like a well run company to me. There are plenty of the other sort who don’t give a monkeys eh ?
Regards. John.

It is very well run, by and large. It would be even better run if the junior management didn’t waste their time inventing little wheezes like this which have no purpose other than to make more senior managers think they’re doing something useful; and create additional admin and paperwork costs which they’re allegedly trying to reduce rather than increase.

Ah yes, junior managers out to impress, I will give you that one!
Regards John.

While your at it, ask them for a tyre pressure gauge too -
… and an app on your company smart phone so you can send daily POWDER/Defect check return forms online. :sunglasses:
