Going to train as hgv looking for advice

Hi im going to get go for my hgv, im aware i have to pass my class 2 before class 1. I have booked my medical with a specialist drivers medical company that cost £54 as i didnt fancy paying £100 plus, the medical is in a few weeks i know i have to wait until thats passed before i can sort my provisional. Am i right in thinking the whole cost will be around £2000? I will be 30 by the time i pass and currently work in a warehouse and i have spoken to some supervisors that work in the transport dept that have said i would have a good chance of getting a job as a driver with them seeing as i have been with the company many years and im aware that a couple of current drivers went down this route. Im in the north east and have seen that there are two training companies that are in middlesbrough which would be ideal for me, they are called Teeside LGV Training and Teeside Transport Training can anyone shed any light on these companies? Failing to seek employment as a driver with my current employers how hard is it for a new driver to get employment? Sorry for droning on! Any info would be greatly appreciated

where are you based, and class 2 should be about £1000 give or take all in

Im based in Darlington, so how much in total to get class 1?

To get class 2 + 1, and the cpc if needed, ive recently done it and its cost £2500 with 1 retest if needed.

class 2 should be about £1000 give or take all in

I doubt that! The OP will also need driver cpc Mod 2 and 4. The better trainers charge IRO £1200 for the Cat C incl VAT and test and the cpc is getting on towards £300. Backstreet operators will be cheaper. But cheap often works out more expensive in the long run.

Then there is the cost of the medical, theory training and theory tests. Maybe around £150.

I have a policy of “not dressing up” the costs cos I don’t think it’s fair. Someone called the other day and said they could get CAT C for £900 “all in”. They were convinced that was the total cost for the practical. Having made an undercover phone call and being very insistent, it turns out that’s + VAT and + test.

I think adults should be treated like adults and not lead down the garden path. Lot fairer to tell it as it is.

Good luck all. Pete

When i did my class 2 five years ago inital cost was £1000 approx. Failed first time. Second test, hire of lorry two hours extra tuition, cost me an extra £500. So £1500for cat c.

I passed c+e three weeks ago. initial training, test and B+B in a local Pub cost. £1500. Again failed first time, but my fault not my instructors . No charge for any extra tuition this time just retest/site fee of £150. And passed with a clean sheet.

Make sure you know hidden costs involved if you should fail you test. And cheapest is not always best.

Thanks for the replies guys, so between 2.5k and 3k to pass class 2+1 would be a fair assumption?
