It was about massive snow falls causing chaos throughout Spain…Madrid to Valencia highway was closed, and as ohterry said, irun was shut.
Alot of the motorway sections passing through the mountains were shut.
Almeria and Murcia provinces were the worst affected, temperatures still down to -10 overnight.
Cheers, bullitt.
brit pete’s link worked.
you dont expect snow like that in spain.
or do you
post some pic’s of your trip terry.
It screws things up big time down in Alicante / Murcia/ Almeria. Most of the salad etc. is grown under plastic tunnels & when the temp. drops it it kills the whole crop overnight. The whole reefer fleet comes to a halt ,& 90% of the trucks are reefers around that way. It happened two years ago & it cost millions…And now it is repeated. The other thing is that places down that way do not have central heating & when they get cold they stay cold. They rely on silly little wall mounted heater/air-con fans that don’t work or those convector heaters that make the whole place dangerously damp. Some places have wood burning fires which only heat up one room at a time. But Brandy is a penny a litre so there is some silver in the lining.
The best site to check traffic conditions here in Spain is the
Spanish Ministry of Transport ‘Estado de la Circulación’
You just click on themap for the provinces you want information on.
dgt.es/trafico/estado_circul … eteras.htm
It is of course in Spanish but you only need to learn a few words!!
Nieve = Snow
Niebla = Fog
Hielo = Ice
Lluvia = Rain
Viento = Wind
Cadenas = Snow Chains
The conditions are ‘Traffic Lighted’
White = Normal
Green = Conditional. Max speed 100kph Autopistas, 80kph on others.
Yellow = Irregular. 60kph max.
Red = Difficult (Snow Chains or Special Tyres)Max 30kph.
Black = Closed

A METRE OF SNOW IN ALMERIA !!!
Vélez-Rubio assesses the extent of the snow storm damage

The Town Hall in Vélez-Rubio says the heavy snow storm which hit many parts of inland AlmerÃa province at the end of January has cost the municipal ■■■■■ between 250-300,000 €.
Planning councillor, Diego Egea, said most of it went on the 20 snow ploughs which had to be called in to clear the snow. He puts overall losses to the people of the town at 1.2 million €, much of it damage caused to livestock warehouses which collapsed under the weight of almost one metre of snow.
He said the Mayor has arranged a meeting with Protection Civil headquarters in Madrid to discuss financial assistance for those affected.
This was between Bilbao and Miranda de Ebro
Between Miranda and Briviesca
These were are on the Sagunto - Zaragoza road where on the Friday night the temperature dropped to -16 Celsius
During the trip I was parked up by the Guardia Civil for a few hours just before the Somosierra and again just before Requena on the A3.
Get out the thermals!!
